they seem to be cheaper then B & H, also i would save on taxes if i do order online, since i am not in a hurry to pick one up.

i will def look into that lense as well, thanks.

Not a problem. Just want to save anyone else from going through the headache I went though .

I really should start a separate thread or something so more people see it. for what it is worth I neded up grabbing the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens for my Canon to start out and have been quite happy so far.

Oh I ended up picking upthe 40D ifmainly for no other reason than the fact that the Rebels felt to small in my big hands. I am pretty sure I would have cramped from using one for any extended period of time.

Demetri, I picked up my Nikon D80 from Costco because of their warranty. And I bought my lenses from B&H. I searched a lot of places and B&H has very competitive prices. You should definitely check them out!

Dleo, the EF 28-105mm is not a suitable lens for the XTi or any other Canon DSLR with a 1.6 crop. The crop makes the 28-105mm lens into a 44-168mm lens (28x1.6 and 105x1.6). So you basicly dont have any wideangle with that lens.
These lenses will get you much better wideangle:
EF-S 18-55, EF-S 17-85 IS, EF-S 17-55 IS or EF 17-40 L.

^ The 17-85 would be in his price range I think. The other two aren't (besides kit lens).

I am going to get the Sigma 18-200 with Optical Stabilizer. Its wide enough and gives plenty of zoom.

I use a 17-105mm for most shooting. I have a Canon lens with USM and it works pretty well (and it is cheap in comparison!)

You want more than the 17-55 for sure!

Anyone using the 70-300 telephoto-zoom?

Looking for a lens for my wife.

Edit - she currently has the 18-55.

You mean for Canon? If so, I'd check out the new EF-S 55-250mm IS

I agree completely.

For the Telezoom question, I'd get the 70-200mm 2.8 IS. Low fstop, fast lens, + IS. If you need more range go buy a Kenko 1.4 teleconverter.

Man... just 3 weeks ago I went through the same process as you. My dad was hardcore Nikon and kept whispering "Nikon" in my ear. So I bought the Nikon D40x package from Costco.

I immediately posted on here. All my buds had Canon. Oops. I returned it the next day.

So I bought the XTi from Costco. I then realized the 70-300 zoom lens and kit lens are pretty crap--all the reviews and my buds on this forum said so. Returned it the next day.

I bought the body only for $529 + free lowepro strap + free shipping from Amazon. Then I bought the $69.99 50mm 1.8 lens from BH and the 17-85 IS lens from US1Camera.

Then dang, I was all happy with my camera and then boom, Navit (on this forum) sells a brand new XTi for UNBELIEVABLY cheap -- WITH KIT LENS.

So damn, I returned the Amazon XTi and bought 2 of them from Navit

Everyone recommends the 28-135 IS lens for beginners. I went with the 17-85--it has so-so reviews cause they say it is $600 and definitely not worth the price.

However, since the 17-85 is now $409 and the 28-135 is only $15 or so cheaper...it made sense to go for the 17-85.

Ok I'm done!

I would've considered the 17-85 if its f-stop was lower. Nice range though.
