BMW Perf Exhaust a little ricey?
I've heard the PE is a bit ricey. Is it true?
The 328 is just too quiet. Can't hear it. Want something that lets me know I have a nice NA I-6. Necessary things: No drone Not intrusive to passengers Sounds great, deep, throaty, but refined, that I can enjoy. Been pouring over the forum, and dunno what to choose... |

I think you and I are looking for similar outcomes (though I'm still not ready to upgrade my exhaust), and PE is probably our best (but pricey) option. Definitely didn't like the sound of muffler delete, despite many owners having it and swearing by it. Hope that's helpful. I think there are plenty of youtube videos with exhaust sounds that might be helpful. |

I have one and im sorry to break it to you that its not ricey. It has a little rasp in the beginning when its still cold but you have no reason to take it up to those revs un warmed up anyways, but once it warms up it has a beautiful tone above 4k. It has all the "Necessary things" you're looking for. No drone, refined when warm, un noticeable with the windows up. Note the following videos.

Not bad.
I like that it's not too intrusive. |

I don't mind taking them off your hands if anyone wants to get rid of their PE for cheap! lol

It is one of the best exhausts available for the N52 imo. There is no combination of adjectives available in the english language to be able to adequately describe how awesome the PE is and how much I love it lol.
It makes your car come alive, and makes it sound like a car, not an appliance or a wind up toy. It sounds pissed off when you cold start it like it's mad at you for waking it up and it lets out a satisfying throaty roar when accelerating from stops, but while at speed there is literally zero droning. And the pops and gurgles when downshifting... sweet jesus |

This vid is basically how it sounds in real life. They didn't record the gurgles and pops when you let off the throttle though which is the best part by far!
Just ignore all the BMW advertising and listen to the sound!

I dunno, maybe I'm getting a little old, but I do feel its a bit louder than I wanted. When it was first installed I thought it was perfect (or quiet as others have said). Now broken in, it's a bit louder than I would like at the lower RPM's. It does not drone on the highway if your cruising without any real throttle input, but you can still hear a slight hum which I hate. Many will call me a crazy contrarian but that's my opinion. I'm coming from an M3 that made all its sound from the engine vs. the exhaust so maybe I'm biased. It's still the least ricey option for our car if you want additional volume.

these exhausts seem to differ I have the pe on my 330i e93 and you don't get that burble on start up or the popping in fact its too quiet for me and I am wondering if taking the resonator box off will make it louder? (the pe on the 335i by contrast is fantastic)

I think it does sound slightly........very slightly rice. I prefer the tone of the Magnaflow. Just my personal taste commenting. Good luck with whatever you decide on!

European cars are different - they have direct injection, which was not offered on the US market. The exhaust has an additional emissions sensor aft of the mid muffler, so the PE consists of a back box only.
