In the club (at last)
Just put a deposit on a 56 plate E90 330d M Sport Auto, LMB with black leather. All being well should be collecting it next Friday. Ive picked up a few tips here and I had to take rather hard nosed approach with the Stealer but I got it for what I wanted to pay.
This may have been covered before but exactly how many keys should I be getting ? (I know there are metal ones hidden inside the plastic ones) And yes, it does have a torch, just need advice on checking the oil who on earth can I ask ? |

E46 was two "proper" keys and a plastic one, but both the new E91 and E87 came with just the two keys.

I'll be parting company with my E46, which has 2 proper keys, a grey (valet ?) key and the carbon fibre one, but it is a 52 plate so maybe things changed over the years.

Welcome aboard. Hope you get a lot of enjoyable miles from your new car.
Just curious. Was the spelling of your moniker intentional?

Do not discuss oil with dxb335d 'aka carlos fandango' No good will come of it. You should get 2 fobs and there IS an emergency plastic sleeve fixed to the inside of the glovebox lid. |

The sleeve works with the emergency key (which is mentioned above as being discontinued).
The emergency key is (was?) a slim plastic key with an encoded chip embedded in it. It is sufficient to unlock the doors. You then fit it into the sleeve, which is the correct shape to fit into the slot on the fascia. The embedded chip in the key is enough to start the car, once locked into the fascia slot. It does not unset the alarm until inserted into the fascia slot, so using the emergency key to open the car can be a little noisy. (I say "a little", as the alarm is not very loud). |

Should a December 06 registered car have the emergency key and sleeve ?
I did open the glovebox but saw nothing obvious, although I was actually looking for the torch at the time. |
