SES Light after Tighten Gas Cap Code
So I had an SES light last week and had my car scanned by a local indy shop. The shop said that nothing was wrong and that it was because I disconnected the plug for the butterfly valve in the exhaust...BS. Anyway he cleared the code. A week later my car tells me to tighten my gas cap. But my gas cap was tightened and I even un-did it and then re-tightened it. After this showed up my SES came on again. I searched and found that the gas cap issue will trigger the SES light but will clear after a few days after the pressurization tests confirm a tight seal. Why is my car telling freaking out? Is the sensor going? If no codes come up after a scan then it has to be the gas cap sensor right? Seeing that SES light on my dash kills me!!!!

Ohh and btw I have a low voltage code too. I think this is because my amp isn't turning off though...Something is up with the remote trigger on my LOC.

My car does the same damn thing. It is so annoying. everytime I get gas, a few hours or a day later, SES comes on... I thought it was because of the PBX, and that freaks me out, but then figured it out. I also have the plug unplugged in the back. I also have the yellow "oil" light on, which turned off yesterday, then SES came on, then off, then yelllow oil again. pisses me off. Obviously need to change the oil, but still the SES light pisses me off.
sorry for the long post. just keep tightening then gas cap, and i guess deal with it. haha sorry I cant help, im doing the same thing. |

I asked a tech about this one. The gas cap warning will give you 3 chimes before it just turns on your check engine light for good. The PCV and fuel tank vent system are connected. Any leak in the lines will cause it to throw a fault code. That exhaust flapper should not throw a code. There is no sensor on the gas cap. It's in one of the vent lines. The car will check the pressure on startup but only if it's not full. If the tank is full the system will wait until the tank drains a bit before it checks. You need your mechanic to check the PCV and fuel venting system.
