Hood Felt?

I decided to detail my engine bay today and as i was taping everything off and covering the alternator i noticed that there was no felt material under the hood.

is this normal? Reason i ask is all the cars i have had before had some sort of sound or fire proof insulation underneath the hood.

BTW my car is a 2009 328XI

I bought my 2011 brand new and it didn't come with one. Never a fan of them anyways, they get dirty over time and impossible to clean.
