Subaru Impreza P1

Time is up with the corrado... and thinking i wanna scratch an itch and buy a P1

Anyone here had one before or know much about them? Have joined the P1 forum and quite a nice friendly forum there.

Off to see one on tuesday in reading so thought i should arm myself with some knowledge first!

P1 is an absolute weapon and if you buy right you aren't going to loose money, providing you don't buy a minter, put more likes on it than the millennium falcon and turn it into a crap heap.

Decent ones aren't cheap.

Interior will make Corrado look space-aged

As Subaru have announced the death of the Impreza in the UK,expect price to increase steadily-especially for sought after models.
Nice motors though-are you stuck on a P1 or have you thought of anything newer-Type 20/25 or an RB320 for example?

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/c...ce-drop/815154

Its a car ive always loved with it being 2 doors and in my mind at least an utter classic - a bit like a corrado!

Plus for the money... think its stunning value.

The P1 is awesome car.back in the days my uncle had one around 6 years ago. The sound of the engine burble is very nice because of uneven length manifold (i think it was that) it causes a distinctive sound. The P1 which was made by pro drive and it has it's own body styling which sets it apart from the rest of the imports , making it truly special car out of the box.

What you might want to add is a shortshift kit ( from memory it was the best shifting feel i ever tried) and give it a remap =] then enjoy the car sticking like glue to the floor!!

My uncle's car had AP brakes, Full HKS system, remap ,shortshift and he did something to the turbos but not sure, it was seriously fast. The one time i tried driving it i got so scared when i step on it once i had to stop and let him drive back home...

Anyway i hope you don't have any back conditions( after every long journey you will get backache.

regarding problems to look out for : the best place is to ask the p1 people

fuck off! just checked the advert

that IS my old car!!

Soo soo cheap :-( Looks like its been in the wars a bit but for that money you cant go wrong! Original engine still, which would probably worry me (which is a nother reason why i sold it (had 37k when i sold it) and was worried it would pop as i read all the subaru horror storys!, but it didnt by the looks of it! Ive heard its had a new gearbox too!

This is how i got it!

I added the silver front wedges (Sprayed myself)
Removed the scooby clinic stickers
swapped for a set of black headlights
added the bonnet scoop
added a carbon fibre splitter under the main bonnet scoop
tinted the rear lights... (Sorry!!)
Debadged the boot
added rear strut brace (made things slidy out the back so slacken this off if its too tail happy!)
refitted the P1 driving lights (these are NOT fog lights!)
removed the "spats" (like mudguards, but not..)

She was a good motor! Paint on the manifold was flaking badly when i got rid, but that was all that was bad, had a slight scuff on the splitter (its low!) and that was it!

Insurance wanted £3000 to re insure it (with declaring all the mods!) that combined with all these horror storys (and a few on the P1WOC that had melted at circa 35k miles i got a bit nervous and swapped it in for my Focus RS!

Anything else you need to know, or for more pics give me a nudge

THAT IS NUTS!!!

(think caps allowed there!!!)

Plan would be to get it and take it all back to 'stock' as much as i could and then leave it be.

From when you had it - any bits that i should look out for?

Yep ... engine going pop thing is a concern as read a few stories about it, but guess thats a big risk with this car generally!

I asked about the car's mods and the guy selling it now said that its only got a diff exhaust and dump valve - no mention of the remap, tho this could be becuase he isnt aware of it himself??

Scooby clinics mapped it up as well mate, i had a chain of emails asking them about the car before i brought it, they were very aware of the car! Hr couldnt dig me out a copy of the RR though :-(

I had literally no issues with the car at all mate, it was a peach. Always went to carnetix to get it looked after too. They are in Melton Mowbray.

I cant believe how cheap it is for a car which that mileage! These things were circa 12k when i got rid!

Just watched some old videos, and yes there was a dumpvalve too, i remembered it for the exhaust noise not the dumpvalve

Danny mate, what year did you buy/sell it?

Also are the engines made from chocolate or something?

I sold it in 2009, around july/august i think i was! Sold it with 37k on the clock had it for just over a year mate, was minty mint when i had it had around 25k on when i got it, if that!

Its had two owners, maybe 3, since then, Unless this guy selling now is using the photos from the previous add or wether they are his, thats the second guy since i had it.

Most Imprezas are known to melt a piston (number 4 i think it is!) Ive known a couple of lads personally who have done the same, on P1s too!

Gone from 12k -7k in 3 years. I remember these cars holdIng value so well many years ago.

It's the only Subaru I liked because I was a RS man in my teens.

thats what i thought when i saw the price..... i thought there was something wrong with it!

Then i saw a few others for round that price but at dealers!

For the money its stunning - even wife okayed it..... just hope she is as understanding when the engine combusts itself!

The guy im speaking to is in Reading area - said it had been looked after by scoobyclinic - if they know the car i might give them a shout as there is a fear that if something goes wrong it could be a bit spectacular £ wise.

Put a 6speed box in it if you buy! The 5speeds are weak hence why it's had a new one probably!

Had an Sti Type R which was basically the Japanese import version of the P1 many moons ago. Lovely cars and still very quick by today's standards and the ride quality is judged just right with it able to soak up all the crap British roads can throw at it with ease.

The only thing I'd watch out for with the P1's is the engine mapping. They were basically imported from Japan to the UK market with the same engine map as in Japan setup to run on 100 ron fuel which we obviously don't have over here (closest is Vpower at 98 ron) which lead to engine problems in quite a few P1's.

Either make sure it's had a remap for our crappy fuel or get it done asap once you've bought it. Oh and ask the previous owner what fuel they ran it on, if they say unleaded or don't know about the mapping issue then walk away. I'd try to buy from a Subaru club member or enthusiast as they need to have been looked after, buying one from a Barry who doesn't have a clue as to how to look after a highly tuned turbo engine properly could end in tears.

I think... speaking to Danny (above) that the car was remapped by scooby clinic.

The current owner is an enthusiast and would appear to be a gent who would have looked after the car.

Will go see it tomorro and have a proper chat and see what other metal he has there to gauge. But agree re running on proper fuel and not 95 RON.

Been offered another by a club member... but its £1500 more.
