SSTT going in 535i

Now that I've gone out and got a 2010 E60, I 've got a question that I hope can be answered here. I intend on moving my SSTT to the 535i, but I'm curious as to whether or not the original SSTT produces enough boost to start throwing codes in this car. Do I have anything to worry about?

Also, it looks like the install will be a little bit tougher than it was on the E90. Does anyone have some words of wisdom for me before I try and get this thing in?

You shouldnt throw anything. When you think about it, its the same engine, same brain so i cant see why the e90 would not throw codes and the e60 will. Just throw it in see what happens and just scan the car if you do throw a code.

New cars have newer software so tuner codes are more likely to get thrown on the new software. But for the OP, I really doubt you'll throw any codes. You are only boosting 3-4 psi more than stock. Highly unlikely you'll get a code thrown on the N54. I had the SSTT prior to the Procede and it worked fine with no problems.

Do you have the SSTT I or II? The II has adjustable boost from 0-4 PSI above stock. I had it in my E92 prior to going the Dinan S2 route, and never had any problems with it. That said, my car has DME80 and from what I have heard, there is some capability to detect overboost in some of the newer DMEs. Probably best to acquire or borrow a code reader that can read the newer DME and check to be sure.

My car's in-service date is March of 2007...I had both the I and then got the II, which offered more boost, but a funny thing happened. Running the II at a setting of 100 (4+ lbs. over stock boost), it started to lag somewhat but came on really strong after the initial lag. I attributed this to the computer sensing pending detonation and retarding things a bit, because when I dialed it back to 80, everything was fine again. I thought maybe it could have been because of lower-octane gas (I use Shell V-power, supposedly 93 but who knows?). Anyway, I finally got a chance to get the Dinan S2 flash at a discounted price and retired the SSTT II. It's actually for sale relatively cheap if anyone's interested. Not exactly a JB3 or ProCede, but not bad for a moderate power increase and very easy to install/uninstall.

I have the 1, not the 2. I just don't think it's worth the extra money to move from an SSTT1 to an SSTT2 or JB+, especially if running at 100% may not give you what you were bargaining for.

But dont' get me wrong...I'd like to have a little extra boost just like the next man, but the extra gain needs to be worth the extra money. I'm financing this one and plan on keeping it for many years, so I figure I'll get more life out of the turbos pushing SSTT1 power versus anything stronger.

Again, I think the SSTT II with its capability to be adjusted easily (it's on a long cable so you can mount it where it's more accessible) in case of fuel quality differences, etc., is worth it. Running mine at the 80-85 setting was pretty strong for just a TMAP Sensor tune. Talk to Split-Second if you want to trade-up instead of buying the II for full price.
