Geez no....what is going on there? Do you drive in demanding conditions? Or perhaps it a defective finish on the wheel

That's from the brake disc hub, not the wheel itself...

It looks really bad. Do you park your car outside?

Car is always parked in garage...thinking of painting them..anyone know a shop that would paint them?

it's just the brake rotor... you change it everytime you service your brake anyways.

this is normal guys. like wtf? happens to to rotors all the time. it might be time for new ones if you havent replaced them in a while.

It's the hubs. It's common on our cars and I'll bet there are few cars WITHOUT it (but yours looks worse than most, I'll say that). There's a lot of threads on this.

Sorry guys but your looking at the rotor, not the hub. You take the calipers off and that complete unit comes off as one, THE ROTOR. You can remove it and complete the DIY or some other application to clear up the problem. The rust is salt related.

But your still replacing the hub/rotor whenever you get a brake service at BMW. As long as your brake assembly is not rusting it's okay.

Yeah, it's a superficial rust, but it's ugly, especially on a BMW.

I guess I didn't use the CORRECT term...

When I said HUB, it's the protuding piece on the brake disc.

The OEM brake disc is one piece.

It's not that expensive if you just want to replacement. People have been painting them themselves.

This is nomal. I have this on mines as well but not everywhere. It's due to the climate that we live in (generally the winter). That area is bare metal and does not have a protective finish on it to prevent it from rusting.

It eventually happens as the rotors/hub are exposed to the harsh climates that we have (plus the added salt in winters.)

I suggest maybe using a wire brush to clean it up a bit, then use some sand paper. Unless you get it professionally painted, the rust will come back.

I just got my rear rotors changed and I can slowly see the rust forming (not bad as it is still summer). I wouldn't be surprised to see a nice thin coat of rust once winter is finished.
