Cracked valve cover...PLEASE HELP!!!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I picked up my car today after having the brakes and O2 sensor replaced. I was shocked when my mechanic told me there was a crack in my valve cover!!! My car only has 85000 kms!!! Is this a common thing?? My mechanic tells me this should be happening even after 160k kms? Has anyone else had this issue?? They are telling me an=bout 1500 to replace WTF!!!

I am EXTREMELY pissed since I just finished spending 1500.

ANY HELP would be GREATLY APPRECIATED on this matter!!!

Cheers

If it's not leaking oil then don't worry about it.

A cracked valve cover is like ripped underwear... no one knows about it but it bugs the shit outta you.

It looks pretty damp. I'm guessing it is leaking...
OP. 1500 is way tooo much if the part costs 300 nd gasket 35, labor costs 3 times the part.... look for somewhere else to do it if u can't urself.

YUP!
http://www.trademotion.com/parts/200...iagram=1942740

you will need #15 @ #16 Trust me its easy but it think you will have to remove the fuel rail and injectors coils and spark plugs, mark the injectors for each cylinder. If you were local i would've helped..

Funny you say that. I'm also in Edmonton and the dealer quoted me 700 bucks to replace it.
My valve cover is fine, its the gasket that was leaking. I'm in the process of doing it too. Its not on my 335, but its on my 07 328xi. the 335 is much easier than the 328. less in the way.

its just time consuming..
good luck.

this might help you. This was for my 328.. but similar concept.

BTW, if you can see the crack from the top, You can save yourself $300+ and try some JB Weld to close up the crack.
If you JB weld, make sure you sand that section so that the JB weld can adhere to it and make a good seal.

Don't leave it as is. Its basically a vacuum leak and will cause you problems.
