It's gone... ...unbelievably!!

Well, the RX-8 has been sold. Cash exchanged and an empty space outside my house. All happened rather quickly actually.

My Pistonheads advert expired a few days ago but hadn't realised so relisted the car on Monday. Received a call yesterday asking about the car and claiming he was interested and said he'd pop over on Friday to look at it. I didn't hold out much hope. Anyway, got another call today saying he could make it over this afternoon.

6pm this evening he arrived, poked around, went round the block, checked the paperwork, gave me a large envelope of £20 notes and vanished into the darkness.

Easy.

Now, I've got no way of getting to work tomorrow but at least the gas-guzzler has gone; lesson learnt. The search is on for a car I can get for £7,000 - £7,500. I can see an evening in front of AutoTrader coming on...

Well done Roger on the sale, am, interested in seeing what you end up with.

I went in the end for a Mondeo ST220 05, SATNAV, all the kit, 39k miles, new MOT = £5.9k

I thought it was a great deal? Glasses is telling me A1 condition with 50k miles is £6,875.

If I can run around in this for 6 months and not lose money even better !

MPG is sh!t tho.

Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words everyone and help on AutoTrader (though not convinced by all the suggestions ).

The more I think about it the luckier I think I've been. I am quite a lucky person to be honest, things just tend to 'work out' somehow, but this time the luck has been extremely gratefully received.

As for your suggestions -: Smart - NO. Old TT - too dated now. Jag - interesting but what dodgy paintwork. Porsche - quite tempted actually but know nothing about them. Merc - not usually a fan but the CLKs seem to be very good value (helped my father-in-law an 05 plate one which seems to have been a great purchase for £9k).

What am I looking for, well, here goes (all preferably manual & leather) -: E46 330/325 i or d coupe (preferably facelift but may struggle), Golf GTi (definately leather; can't stand that damn tartan), 350Z, Z4, new shape Type-R, 04-onwards S2000, Alfa Brera. I'd love things like sat-nav, xenons, sunroof, etc, but have to be realisitic at this price.

Budget - £8,000 ABSOLUTE max (I've got £7k, could possibly scratch around for another £500, then negotiate0
Mileage - depends on the car; as far under 100k as possible but would consider high mileage for the right car
MPG - not really that bothered (said that before ) but I'd like 18-20mpg really to be the worst I'd consider

Doesn't really matter what type of car as the wife has the family car now so game on for coupe, soft-top, convertable, 2 or 4 seats. Saloon OK but would prefer something more 'sexy' if possible.

Game on...
