Trade-in... ...WTF

I've made no secret that I'm thinking about changing the X3 for something cheaper to run so today made an enquiry for an 58 plate E91 2.0d M Sport with nice spec.

Gave them the details of the X3 which, some may remember, took me ages to find as I wanted huge spec. Basically, it's immaculate, low miles, we're the 2nd owner, as follows -:

56 plate - 2 owners - 40,000 miles - full BMWSH
Titanium Silver / Black Leather
Spec -:
Adaptive Headlights
Automatic Gearbox
Elec Fr Seats + Driver Memory
Leather interior
Loudspeaker system - BMW Business
M Y-Spoke Style 191 M 8.5/9J X 19
Media package
Panoramic glass sunroof
Seat heating. front
Sun protection glass
Windscreen with green shade band
Xenon headlights

The price they offered was £10k trade-in. I mean, come on, please tell me they're talking the p!ss. I promptly told him to f*ck off & shove it up his @rse.

Please tell me I've not got unrealistic dreams of getting somewhere nearer £15/16k for it .

I await the X3 haters to come along with their witty comments .

I don't know mate, I can't see it being worth 15-16k personally but I have not followed prices of X3's.
Also its not really low mileage, just below average mileage.

I'd say better than average really; what's the average these days?? 10/12k?? This has done 8k. Ok maybe higher than low but lower than average .

Similar cars are being advertised at £16/17k, mine has extended warranty too, perhaps nearer £14/15k?!?!

They are complete piss takers

I went to trade mine in a month ago for another beemer expecting to pay x amount but the trade in value was a JOKE!

I think you would sell it privately for much closer to your ideal than their offer, that's for sure!

You might have to prepare yourself for a wait, market is a little slow for bigger engined cars. But the spec should pull it through.

Rog,
The free Vauxhall Glass's valuation site has gone so can't check the PX. Do a quick webuyanycar valuation and see what that says, that gives rock bottom price.

Just looked at AUC cars, that trade in price is a joke. This car is 6 months older than yours, 15000 more miles and is £16700. That would make the px of yours £13-£15K in my book.

Rog, you were right to tell them to cram it with walnuts, I think that's a p*ss-take offer.
I'm not particularly 'up' on trade-in values, bur I would agree that should be worth another £5-6k all day long - that would have been a solid £40k car new.

Spec is great - and it is low miles - and it is a 3.0d

But ... it is an X3 which is quite a marmite looker - and it is nearly 5 years old.

I think with Media and Pan roof it is probably pretty rare so you should sell privately fairly easily if you pitch the price/haggling strategy right. I'd ask £2k more than its "probably worth", say you're open to any offers, and accept a cheeky offer £2k under your asking price....! Win-win.

I'm afraid that ever since Vauxhall let down the nation by ending its deal with Glasses Guide I have no useful source of 2nd hand car values so not sure what its "probably worth".....

Are there any traders with access to CAP/Glasses on here?

Carlos, get your times tables out mate; 40 / 5 = 8

I know someone in the trade who just said "part-ex £12.7k / private 14k". Build in the spec, miles, etc and should push it to £15k privately.

Waiting until Winter was a thought but always thought; if the right motor comes alone...

Looking at that - assuming its representative - put it on PH for £16k, and accept £14k privately. I think the margins dealers will want these days will not allow them to offer £15k to retail something at just over £16k. I suspect they effectively bought that car for £12-13k tops.

8k a year, still wouldnt call a nigh on 5 year old car low mileage with 40k

Low mileage would be 10-15k for a 5 year old motah.

Why don't you check prices on 'Trader mate to compare with yours. Gives a good representation usually.

I take it all back - Vauxhall have not let down the nation!

The reason why the Glasses link doesn't work is that they've switched the CAP!

Hooray!

[Mind the value of my car is not very high - boo!]

CAP seem to give much lower prices than Glass's.
