+ 1 for Stratstone being tw@t.

Sold my 5er couple of years ago for £15.5k and they put it up for sale for just short of £22k. Not sure how much they let it go for but it wasn't on their website after a week.

CAP is more like the real figure at the moment. They are far closer as it is based on what they are fetching at auction, not what dealers are saying they are worth.

4x4's are really not flavour of the month at the moment, and cars are not making book, you have Sept 1st coming up and they will have more cars than they want, I would hold off till October/Novemeber time and the first flurry of snow, that will be a £12k car again by then.

CAP values my E90 at 7500

BMW refused to give me more than 6000.

The cheapest M sport sub 80k mileage on AT with full leathers is almost 10k.

Ridiculous market at the moment.. Looks like I'll have to go for voluntary termination on mine to get the money back!

Cheeky git!!! I'm after the new Prius estate; it's got solar panels on the roof (looks a bit like an M3 in that respect) so never needs filling up. Oh, and it hugs trees as it passes too

Now that I have to see! Perhaps the e90 forum could club together to top up the trade in so you can get the Prius

Yes, it's a 3.0d, auto. It's an xdrive model (facelift from 56 onwards-ish) but pre-ED model (57 onwards). We get 28mpg average from it but it is used by my wife just tootling around. It spreads its legs sometimes on family visits/holidays and the average will climb.

To be honest, it's not too bad mpg-wise but I'd just like to get a little more. Our car is caught in the higher tax band also which is annoying but not the end of the world considering the spec and price I paid.

Spot on Del. My only thought with selling privately was that someone a little niave might come along and not realise the price on the tax disc was for 6 month as opposed to 12 .

Joking aside, selling privately and with some rent still on it. The average punter would be clueless.

The very same thing nearly fooled me earlier this year, when I was looking for a cheap load lugger. I noticed Mondeo V6’s were so much cheaper than the 2.0ltrs equivalents. The then penny dropped.£435 road tax

Here's hoping .

Spoke to the dealer before actually, mainly to get a finance figure on this motor (without trade-in/no deposit), to judge how much a £20k car costs over 4 years with a balloon.

The guy I spoke to was on holiday so, luckily, I spoke to someone else. When I explained the situation he said he'd have a word. I told him, literally, the previous trade figure was taking the piss and that he couldn't compare mine price-wise with the one they've already got on their forecourt (2.0d no spec vs 3.0d high spec / ignoring tax for a minute). He's going to come back to me but really I'm just interested in bouncing a few figures around for now.

You never know indeed. I'm just interested in swapping the following costs -:

MPG - 28mpg for nearer 40mpg
Road tax - £460 p/a to nearer £125 p/a
Warranty - £41 p/m to nothing (12 months included)
Finance -£450 p/m to ????? Hoping to shave up to £100 off p/m

In the great scheme of things it the costs aren't a massive issue but if I could cut a corner without sacrificing too much space then I'd take that opportunity .

This is what I've got my eye on...

I'm not bothered either way to be honest; I'll happily wait until the start of winter and try to sell the X3 privately.

Will take her a few drives to get used to it but she'll be OK. If she grumbles about being handed the keys to a 58 plate Beemer, all paid for, she can swivel .

She does like an auto (having never driven one before the X3) but the manuals are just that bit more efficient which is helping my 'financial project'.
