Deer + BMW = New Bi-Xenon/Adaptive Headlight Assembly
Fellow E90 Folk--
I have a 2007 BMW 335i with the Bi-Xenon/Adaptive headlights (PN#: 63117161669). I had the unfortunate luck of running into a deer. According to my wife, Rudolph will not be able to make it for Christmas. Damage includes a busted headlight, foglight, and left fender. Pictures will be posted shortly. With that being said, are there any LCI headlights that are a direct bolt on replacement that will fit my car? I thought that I would take this opportunity to look at upgrading the look to my 'older' E90. Thanks! |

I'm not in need of the hood. The largest amount of damage was to the headlight. Also, just noticed today that the front left fender & driver door need to be worked on.

Okay, if you are in Germany as your location states, I would just get a set of bi-xenon's off a wrecked Euro car (ie no big orange reflector). There are dozens of sites that recycle parts off of cars. I even use Schmiedmann here in the states.

I did check out multiple sites here in Germany. The problem is the 19% tax, so a headlight assembly that would usually cost 450 Euro ends up becoming 535 Euro, which in USD is $776. The other caveat is import taxes/customs. Too bad there are not large junk yards around here with massive amounts of E90's to rummage through.
I actually found a used headlight assembly on Ebay for $571 shipped from Wisconsin. I have also bookmarked Schmiedmann's for future reference as it does appear that they have some good deals are less expensive parts. Also, as promised here are some pictures of the damage. I was able to find an E90 fender here in Germany (same body style, primed) for $60. I'm hoping it's either a great deal, or I just wasted the money on a banged up piece. Before picture: Left headlamp/foglight/fender aftermath: I know BMW Parts are expensive, but what really got me with the headlight is the cost. If you look at RealOEM and grab the part number, a new assembly can easily cost $1200 (average). Once location in Oregon quoted me $1827... The good news is that the airbags didn't deploy, and I made it home safe. Something to be said for a well built car, with alot of weight behind it. Yay to my E90!!! Sad to see.. I just went through this. Body shop had my car for 4 weeks and it's still not even close to perfect so I have some arguing to do. I got a new light, fender, hood, bumper, grille.. ~$7000 worth of damage.
On the bright side, if you do take it to the body shop, it shouldn't take weeks to get your parts in since you're in Germany. The morons I took mine to had to order parts twice, they tried to put a cheap aftermarket light in (it fogged up, so don't waste your time) and they ordered a black grille when the one that was still in the car was chrome (duh). Finally on Christmas Eve the right parts came in and I got it back.. OEM headlight fogged up still, the left side of the bumper is sagging a little (so the gaps around the headlights aren't even), and the exterior light warning still pops up everytime I start the car. :-( Viel Gluck! |

I do have the VAT forms, the purchase is not in person so it poses many more challenges (ie.: how can they invoice without proof of a VAT form, how do I get the form to them, etc...) it was easier to get the parts from the states and have them shipped here. Interestingly enough, the parts were cheaper as well.
