I'm guessing that you still have the 06.02 disc (or earlier) and that the new software doesn't like it.
The modified disc is 2007-01 and worked perfectly prior to the dealer's intervention.

Lets recap

a 2007-1 original disc worked before and after the dealer upgrade.
a 2007-1 modified disc worked before dealer upgrade and not after.

I am assuming that the dealer upgrade has bought your software up to the latest (and apparently slightly modified look).

Therefore either the upgrade did not work properly (unlikely since the unmodified disc works); there has been a file structure change that is affecting the modification you did; the software upgrade has a block now built in to soft the dataset being patched; or your disc has become damaged.

Given that that the unmodified disc works, then the problem has to be with the 'modification' and that the new software doesn't like something to do with the data or file format of the patch you made.

You might like to see if there is an updates version of the patch and try again.

I have yet to do the modification (next weekend using a 2007-2) but from what others have said, I cant see that there is a lot to go wrong.

Is your DVD a DVD+ or -

Hmmnn .. not that simple then.

What I know is that a disc I burned with 0602 did not work with the latest software (modified i-drive menu), but one I burned with 0701 did.

Have you tried starting the process again from scratch? New Iso etc ..

If you look at the instructions again here:

http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/imageway.htm

In step 15 onward there are some particular file format instructions that may be important for the modified disc.

Probably not a bad idea to start again from scratch. I'll give it a try when I find the time.

That was exactly the problem. Thanks for your calm, lateral thinking.

Good, concerns over losing my camera database has put me off an update.

Might find reason to update it now

I think the new software looks much slicker, so I would quite like to get the update at some point - even if I have to burn my NAV disc again.

I don't think the dealer will do it unless you have the car in for a problem that requires a reflash - or you pay them!

They wouldn't be able to do it during a service anyway, because it needs to be left untouched in sleep mode connected to their computer for several hours (bizarre I know, but that is how it works apparently).

If anyone so much as opens the door they have to start again.

I had a reflash on my 530d when they fitted an aux input for my ipod and it took half a day.

The new software feels more responsive. The display - now with a slightly different look - (almost) always returns to the last selected screen: info icons, eg speed cameras, remain selected: the controller and its haptic feedback are better behaved when scrolling through traffic info messages; the radio now springs into life almost immediately. TMC info icons though are considerably smaller and so its more difficult to differentiate between types of warning. Also, although I can't quite put my finger on what has changed about the map, it somehow looks "messier"

1st Post.

Contacted my dealer yesterday, told them I had a Navteq 2007-2 that would not work, showing message "New Software DVD, shutdown and restart in 5 minutes"

After 5 minutes I get message "DVD Read Error"

I did not tell them it was Mod DVD.

They said the Navigation on my 3 Series M Sport June 2006, would only work with a badged BMW 2007-2, and if I use Navteq 2007-2 the car would need a Re-code.

Price £200

The stealer also pointed out that the BMW 2007-2 will work straight out of the box, Price £250 inc vat.

What's the difference between a Navteq 2007-2 and a BMW 2007-2 other than the price difference of about £120.

Just tried a new burn with the Joliet option unticked, still no good.

I need to try a non mod 2007-2, to prove it's not the car.

Looks like a trip to the dealer, purchase rip off BMW 2007-2, try it in car before leaving, and if it don't work ask for a Progman update FOC.

Not being cyncial
I doubt if there is much difference apart from some additional code that BMW will have added to their versions of the software to 'ensure compatibility' with the own units and to make sure that you have to buy theirs.

Rather like the Epson ink jet printers where the genuine Epson cartidges have some recognition built into them to allow them to work, whereas the third party ones dont.

Why are you in such a hurry to get an 0702 disc?

I'm quite happy with my 0701 until such time as I can get my hands on a BMW 0702 and rip it to ISO. Maybe next time a colleague gets a new car - or even from the next courtesy car

There is no way in hell that I am going to buy one from the dealer.

Better still - I am sure someone on this forum who has 0702 will rip you a copy.

Hi Alex,

Yes that's what you would think, but then why would Navteq sell the 2007-2 on the web site, where you choose Make,Model,Year.

Also I am sure if the Navteq version would not work without a Progman Update they would say that on the web site.

What I need to do is try an Un-modded version and see if that works.

Has any forum member got the 2007-2 running on a 2006 E90, with what I think will have the March 2006 Progman.

Failing that I suppose I need to buy the BMW 2007-2 from the dealer for £250, if it don't work they upgrade the progman free.

Then I can use my mod dvd.

Also I have seen posts where they have the car for a whole day for a progman update, which sounds a bit like when I considered having the iPod Intragation in the glove box, and they wanted the car for 2 days, so I knocked that on the head.

That must be some slow old upload equipment they have, that's all I can say.

Speaking to the service guys at the dealer during an open day it's not one of their favourite features.

At present they cannot flash a single module but have to do the whole of the car. This obviously takes time, and if anything goes wrong then they have to start again. If the power goes of during the programming of a module it likely fries it and it has to be replaced before starting the programming again from scratch. They never leave a car programming overnight in case of power failure and will instead pause it.

As the serice guy put it, "How do you tell someone it'll take a day to replace the radio?"

Needforspeed,

You know what it's like, I have the 2006-1 mod dvd just now and have found a few road changes and also my camera database is over a year old.

I decided at first to update the camera database but thought 2007-2 must have a more up to date road map, so killing 2 birds with 1 stone sounded good.

If all else fails I will update my 2006-1 camera database, but I hope to crack the 2007-2 problem by the end of the week with any luck.
I hate starting something and not being able to finish it.

Alex - Thanks for the info.
