LSD or not?
Is there a LSD available for 335i? What're the options we have? Torsen, clutch or anything else? LSD swap with stock ring gear or the whole pumpkin swap?
Sorry I'm new here. But driving with the clutch type LSD for the last 7 years, I felt something missing every time I made a sharp turn and accelerate out of the turn in 335i. The rear end just felt kind of floating |

Do it. Their are two out right now. (TMS) LSD, and Hartage (LSD). They usaully start off at 4,000 $ without install.

Man, are you serious? If these are the only options. I give up and just live with the open diff from now on.
Any other suggestions? |

If your car is Mar-Apr 2007 production or later you will most likely have a welded diff, which I hear makes the install harder and I have not heard of away around that difficuly so far.

How about the whole pumpkin swap? Any BMW unit available? The e46 M3 rear end? Different gear ratio?

The rear-end of the 335i does NOT match the e46 M3. The rear-end is actually from a previous 5er V8-powered automobile.
Installed, I paid a little more than $3000 for a clutch-type LSD from Koala Motorsport, including installation. KMS had an introductory rate at the time, so contact them for the latest information. http://www.koalamotorsport.com/ I live about an hour away from KMS, so it was an easy drive for me and it only took about three hours from start to finish. The diff also came with a new rear-end cover to facilitate rear-end fluid changes. I've had it in my car for over 8000 miles and it has performed very well. I can exit a corner with greater speed and control than with the open diff. I really recommend it to any who wish to perform an LSD upgrade. |

Rumor has it that the BMW performance products will have a LSD for the 135, and so one might also deduce, for the 335. That will probably be the best option, if you can wait 'til next summer. I got a Quaife for $1700. But I have a pre-3/07 build.

What I am trying to understand, is why they don't offer at least a locking differential?
It seems that is cheaper than an LSD. Porsche offers that in their cars (non AWD/GT variants). Yep, no LSD avail for a 911/Boxster/Cayman in North America (optional in Europe) but at least they get a locking diff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locking_differential So what gives? |

Well, now that's funny. The Hartge/Birds LSD is actually the Quaife. Perfect unit, not to mntion the price (1700$), but if U have the welded diff, U need to find a suplier who will replace it, too, so double the price.
The Hamann LSD - well, I don't know. Isn't it just a Google error? Anything I found on a topic was Hamann LSD (Lambo Style Doors) There are a few clutch type LSD's also, like e.g. Drexler, last time I checked it was almost 2x the price of the Quaife.

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...=100-100-00008 I think Koala is installing both Quaife and TMS. Ring them up for the best info. update: TMS also has whole diffs now http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...CT_ID=33920335 Last edited by tintivilus; 10-29-2007 at 03:49 PM.. Have Qauife LSD, got it for $1700
Installed by Harman Motive in torrance Ca. The car is so much better now. I can actually power out of a turn now and feel the car, instead of almost losing it. Thanks to Dan Harman it feels like I have new car.
