picking up my 335xi coupe on saturday. I got it with the 18in wheels w/ rft's. They are offering my wheel/tire insurance for $795 which covers up to $5,000 worth of damage. I drive to and from Manhattan, pot hole galore, everyday but its mostly highway driving. I've never (knock on wood) had a problem in the past with my old bimmer and also my STI. What do you guys think? Do these RFT's blow out easily?

I took a tire insurance from the dealer and paid about $800. I had a flat tire which means tire replacement which should have costs me $400 to $600 per tirel. Dealer replaced the tire for free through the insurance, they will claim it themselves. I just need to have one more flat tire and then I'll get my money back. But then again if you switch to non RFT then you don't need this insurance, right?

I opted for the insurance, and not just because of the RFTs. Hitting potholes can damage non-RFTs just as easily, and since we are running 40 series, 35 series and sometimes 30 series tires, they are more suspectible to impact damage.

Yes, the RFTs are expensive, but so is a standard Michelin PS2! I figure fixing a flat or repairing a bent wheel will easily run over $300, so it seemed like cheap insurance to me. My policy also covers whatever is on the car, so if I get new aftermarket wheels and different tires, I'm still covered.

I'd say go for it.

I am kinda pissed because my dealer never offered this to me. I already bent a rim (162) and blew out a tire, so, the insurance would have paid for itself already. Sounds like it is a good investment.

I have put tire warranties on the last 3 bmws my wife drives. 2003 540i sport....2 seperate nails and a road hazard caused a tire+wheel X2 saved me alittle over $2k 2005 4.8is 1 nail and it paid for the warranty. and now my 335i.
I say get the warranty!!

Not worth it imo....buy a nice set of CSL's for the same price and keep the stock wheels stored away in your garage. Hard to damage them when you're not riding on them...

So when you wreck one of your CSL's, you ride on 3 CSLs and one stocker? The idea of wheel and tire insurance is that you get it for the wheels and tires you're actually using, so you can keep using them if you break some.

mine would apply to any set of rims and tires on the car as long as they are within stock specs. It just sounds too good to be true. It seems so worth it that i'm doubting it. I mean, the dealerships aren't in business to loss money! I think i'll get it. After talking to a bunch of people, everyone who didn't get it wished they did!

In the rare occasion that this happens, i'll buy a new one.....In all 3 of my previous cars and all 4 sets of wheels that I've gone through, i've yet to wreck one...
