Sounds good. Looking forward to a report once you get it all installed. Your front tires will likely be right at the edge of the fender lip at that drop. You may want to look at them closely pointed straight ahead, then turned lock to lock and think about clearances esp when fully compressed with all that new travel + drop.
How is it your bump stop is only 1.25" long now? XI front stops are over 3" long and I thought you trimmed 3/4" off. You should have some travel left before contact with your present set up and M3 stops. |

This is turning out to be an awesome thread! My drop with SP perches does not look any lower than WhiteFury's. The custom Koni's look like an awesome option to get some travel back. WhiteFury really has been doing his homework on this one!

TCK sells them. Should be on same page as the TC Kline single adjustables on their website. Not cheap.

Just got off the phone with tc.
Confirmed 1 inch increase in strut travel. .5 inch from top and bottom. Car will drop .5 inch and I get .5 inch more strut travel! For the tckline rear koni's they have 1 inch of strut travel increase matched for eibach pro kit and externally adjustable. With m3 and z4m bump stops this thing is gonna be right!! This is the way for the xi guys. Truly!

Sweet! I did not know they cut the rears down too. Also I think but not sure you may need different rear upper shock mounts for the top adjust konis, might make sure. Somebody else can chime in here.

Does the e90 have a trans cooler by the rad? I believe it does and if indeed that it does there is a quick fitting connected. I'm trying to figure this out as I want to do a complete transmission flush, I want to go back to lifeguard6. Therefore what I'm trying to do is turn the car on with the cooler unplugged and it will allow the pump to push all the transmission fluid through the cooler and I can drain all of it and refill fresh. This possible?

You should have a trans cooler up front near the rad on the driver side. You still have the torque converter full of fluid, not sure anyone bothers or tries to flush the way you are saying. What fluid do you have in there now? I was planning on switching to redline ATF here in the spring, going to do both diffs and transfer case same time. @ 40k miles. Not sure about TC fluid yet (need to read more) but redline ATF in the tranny and 75w90 both diffs for sure.

Redline is notchy shifting. I just changed my transfer case, and diffs twice. Once at 64k and again at 68k yesterday to make sure I got all the crap out of them. You can only use BMW divider oil GL-4. You must use BMW oil from the dealer. There is no other alternative, trust me on that LOL. I have researched for months on this and glad I did. Also on the diffs I use redline 75w-90. Excellent oil. Going back to lifeguard6 on the transmission.

Go to realoem.com, select Z4M as vehicle, should be there under rear suspension. I am not sure the Z4M is substantially better than the regular Z4 for this purpose.
On the tranny fluid, did you reset TCU adaptations after changing to redline? Not the lame gas pedal reset, the INPA TCU parameter reset. If not the hard shifting could be due to inappropriate wear/shift parameters WRT new fluid and could have happened with any type fluid. Others here have reported good results with redline. There is also a reset procedure for the transfer case parameters, though it is not clear you can do it through INPA, or even that is does as much as the TCU one. There are parameters inside the coding that adjust things like line pressure, clutch engagement and so forth for assumed wear rates of internal components, one of those components is fluid age/condition. You put in new fluid w/o resetting model is no longer accurate. On the tranny at least, supposed to drive around taking it easy for 50-100 miles after reset, to let it figure out how hard to shift. |

Yep that's the one. It'll shit rough and a little clunky for a while, then smooth out, you're supposed to drive with a light foot on the gas and then over 50-100 miles step it up to normal to let it adapt. It will do that no matter what kind of fluid is in there, then adapt to it. IOW you'll have to do that again if you change fluid type.
So you did that with new Redline and now it still shifts hard? Do you have the Alpina flash yet? |

I called turner motorsports yesterday and they are the leading BMW performace team in the country (according to many pages and people I have spoke to) and the lead tech said that D6 is what the E46 m3's, as well as E46 series auto's & manuals use. He also stated that the E90 manual transmissions use it also. He advised against it firmly and told me to switch back to lifeguard6 or BMW OEM which is the same. He stated that it just doesnt work for the AT in the E90 with a ZF trans. I know many that use it, and they have no issues but maybe finiky trannys don't like it. I am not sure I just know mine doesnt.

So I just spent a few hours tweaking my software and trying to figure things out and did an adaptation reset on the transmission. Now it shifts pretty damn good still a little rough but the slow shift between second and third gear is gone!
