17x8 ET30 or ET40?

I have an '07 335i Sport Pkg with 3 bent OEM rims. I have decided to downsize to 17" wheels. I really like the Beyern Mesh, which is only available as a square 17x8 setup.
So with that decided, my next decision is whether to go with ET30 or ET40 offset. As you know OEM offset for 8" wide wheels is ET34 (and ET37 for 8.5" rear).
Most vendors' application tables indicate ET40, but I'd rather not have the wheels sunken into the fenders an additional 6mm front and 9mm rear. Can I safely go with an ET30, which, according to the nifty calculator on this forum header, would extend the fronts outward 4mm and the rears outward 1mm from my current 18" staggered setup? I searched and couldn't find a clear answer.

Thanks!

I'd go with ET30.

Thanks for the advice on the ET30 recommendation.

One more question: Can I go with a slighter wider tire 235/45R17 on a 17x8 ET30 wheel and not have about any clearance issues? I know it's a very minor change, but I don't want to make a $600 mistake!

That should fit with no problem, actually very common to do.
