If you havent driven one, go and drive one - It is astonishing how well it drives, probably the best hot hatch Ive ever driven - This should be a good week.....

Oh and the interior plastics aren't as bad as you think
I havent driven one, but i drove a 182 sport in 2005 i think (might have been 2006) and i thought it drove really well.

Oli, more on the Clio please this week, I'm interested to see what you think after a while, particularly with regard to the short gearing on the motorway. You're not alone in loving it, EVO felt the same about their longtermer (run by someone who owns a Zonda).
So all BMW's quality is heading south? is that so? I have found personally the quality of an E92 far higher than its highly acclaimed predecessor the E46.

Its a well built car which does its job very well. Some people have been unfortunate with their vehicles, which is sad but it does happen with many manufacturers not least BMW.

Carl, I obviously only have limited experience of BMW quality (5 cars over the last 6 years), but so do you for that matter in terms of ownership. I did also say that it is apparently heading south (ie in my experience).

My point is, we see a lot of problems on this very forum with the E9X series, and we are only a small group of owners. Are we the exceptions or the rule? My E92 has been off the road for nearly 6 weeks since I bought it brand new in August 07. Tony's (for instance) is another story altogether, and that's to name but 2. Contrast that with the numerous rattles and creaks in my car, compared with zero in my old E46 (bought at 3 years old.....) during the 2 years I owned that. And it was never recovered by BMW assist either, unlike my E92.

I am well aware that all cars will do this to some extent, my problem is that I increasingly wonder why I paid for a £28.5K car that does what you obviously expect a £15K Renault to do. And have you tried one? It's like the Ford Focus thing, don't knock it until you have is my view.

Now I know you love your car and it's been trouble free so good on ya. I love BMs too but my (and others') experience is really testing my loyalty to the brand, and I may well have issues spending the same or more again on a BM come change time in 18 months. I never say never, though, it will be interesting to see how things go.

Oli - how's the Clio doing then?

BMW do seem to be having lots of problems with turbos on the 335i, the 320i engine and e92's in general.

To be honest though, I've had very few niggles with my 330i over 18 months / 30K miles(touch wood):

1. Sticky door handles - fixed under warranty
2. Crashed i-drive - which I think I sort of broke myself anyway

So .. I'm not sure build quality has gone completely, but clearly BMW have had far too many issues lately ..

Having had 3 E46 over the years I find the E92 vastly improved in terms of build and finish with the exception of the water based paint .....

I think you are right. After I first test drove my 530d I got back into my e46 320cd and it felt like a bag of spanners.

When I switched to the 330i the wind and tyre noise seemed a little better, but refinement was about the same.

I have another one for a week. A brand new Clio 200 in liquid yellow for me to hoon round in. I am considering one as a 2nd car when I get the Porsche. I have the Megane 250 next week. Pics to follow of both cars to follow.

All I will say, is they really are as good as everyone says.

I certainly wouldn't own one in this colour, even at 30mph people scowl at me to slow down, especially with the high gearing and the excellent exhaust note. However, as I've said before this has to be the best handling hot hatch out there, and is seriously on my radar as a 2nd car - if you nit driven one, do it, you WILL smile......lots. Only one fault is the rear has only two seat belts even though there is loads of room for 3 kids.

Renault pick it up on Tuesday and leave a meganesport 250 in it's place.

Sounds like, and looks like, the 2010 equivalent of the late 80's Renault 5GT Turbo - of which I owned two 1988-1990!

There is 60 plate one of these in the car park at work in a colour I can only describe ad 'primer'. I think the pre face lift front end looks a bit nicer but I am sure they are great to drive.

Agreed colour wise! Have you driven one? It will really change your views on them!
