Help E90 328i New thermostat replaced and still getting code

Helping sister out replaced her thermostat since she got a code for noting the cooling system was cold for too long forgot exact code. After about a week of driving it has returned with new thermostat installed. Any ideas...my next thoughts are the engine to sensor or alternator not putting out enough juice. Anyone else have this issue and can share a remedy the registration and smog check are due soon so need to figure this out and do a drive cycle..not much time left thanks

What temps is the coolant actually running at?

On my x5d I replaced the tstat... with a brand new defective tstat that was just as bad.

A few things to think about before throwing money at it...
