You still need it. With most OCC's you remove the hose and still use the valve and attached the OCC hose to it.
The valve/hose can only be purchased as one part from BMW.

Fantastic product. Such an upgrade over stock. I reccomend buying a new OEM check valve with this to have your CCV system revitalized.

I am not going to go out on a limb to make such bold claims about Engine longevity, etc. as next up will be another asking for data on how I came to those conclusions. This would be asking for essentially 10s of thousands and years of research on a $10 profit part.

In a nutshell, PCV valves deteriorate over time. They always have, always will. It is a common maintenance replacement part on any vehicle, has always been since the beginning of time. Anytime I buy a car, its on the list of things to replace as standard maintenance. It is very often a key component that is neglected, the masses just tend to think they are not important. The thing is they are very important, especially on turbocharged cars where you never want the positive pressures they are subjected to on a regular basis to pass into the engines crankcase. When you go into boost, you want the PCV to shut air tight and not think about opening until the intake goes back into vacuum again. This is where the RB valve shines, it does not leak (comparing new OEM BMW vs. new RB).

On the N54, the need is actually heightened due to just a odd and in my opinion a poor overall PCV system design especially over time. The way these valves are positioned in the valve cover they tend to "drink" oil, and then disseminate the oil into the intake valves via the vacuum/boost channels through the valve cover to the Intake ports. The oil passing through the PCV valve can gunk them up and affect their performance over time. If anyone who has ever payed attention to the Intake valve contamination problem they will notice that cylinders 4, (mostly 5), and 6 all are usually the worst. This is because the PCV channel is positioned directly over #5, and #4 and #6 being equidistant away. These 3 cylinders get first swig on the oil that passes through the PCV day in and day out, and make them look very nasty over time. Cylinders 1,2, and 3 are usually pretty clean all things considered.

For now, here is a part that is offered up as an upgraded replacement as a new OEM unit is not available without buying a completely new valve cover- oddly enough.

Hope this helps somewhat,

Rob

Is this from the holes in the top of the valve ports in the head. I remember little holes in the "roof" of these ports when cleaning the valves.

That is a definite on the sealing part. For the function side of things it is brand new so it is a good replacement candidate especially considering there is no other available.

As for your vehicle and 100k miles, there is no question that it is worth replacing. But if all seems well with your car, no oil consumption and it runs like a top- perhaps you are still ok.

Thanks,
Rob

Got mine , the valve cap was a little too tight or your upgraded valve was little too thick.

They wouldn`t mate properly , had to file down slightly on the valve cap , cleaned and problem solved. They look and feel solid.
