Install of TomTom 910
hi, I would like to get the TomTom 910 installed in my car, however not on the windshield but in the area between driver and passenger, where I currently have the cigarette lighter and ashtray.
I would use the TomTom as navigation (BMW doesn't have navigation for Hungary) and also the BT handsfree. what this would mean is taking out the ashtray console, making the wire connections through there, figuring out some sort of holder/docking for the device there... any ideas a) whether this could be done and b) how to go about doing it/getting it done? thanks a lot, Adam. |

Hmmm...if you install the TomTom unit so far down, it won't be within your line of sight. If I am not mistaken, the TomTom has a small 4"-5" screen, so I'd imagine, it'd be hard and distracting at your proposed location.

don't really need to look at it for navigation, I use voice commands and don't look at the screen at all...
installing on dash wouldn't work as I have the iDrive there and overload of displays wouldn't help... Quote:

I would just put it on the windshield instead of hurting your baby.

with hurting my baby - I was thinking of a clear install not something cheesy! if I can't get it nicely done, I won't do it at all! I think the TomTom would really fit there well, just need someone with audio/video car install experience think of how to make it hold there and do the wiring... (want to check here before I approach some shops here - found that people here have much better knowledge/ideas than the pros out there!!!). A. |

I know this isn't what the OP is asking, but what about the unit that replaces one of the center air vents? Do they provide mapping for Hungary?

hi all, still didn't get to doing the above mentioned however am more and more inclined in doing so.
one question, that also comes to my mind is whether anyone knows/has tried to connect external monitor to the iDrive screen. if there was possibility to connect my TomTom display to the iDrive screen and seeing the info on iDrive, that would be great. any ideas whether this is possible? thanks, A. |
