Largest winter tires on 18's, please help
I am currently running Michelin PSS's (225 40 18 & 255 35 18) on Enkei Raijin's (8.5 & 9.5) and am looking to put winter tires on as i live in the Northeast and dont want to be stranded at work if we get hit with snow. I will be driving my Jeep in heavy snowfalls. I have been told by local shops I can not fit a larger sidewall tire on the car, but there seems to be PLENTY of space in the front wheel well. Can I run 225 45 18 and 255 40 18 with no rubbing? Im not sure of the wheel offsets if that matters. I want to get as much sidewall as I can due to our major pothole problem here in the winter. I have been recommended to get the Micheln Alpin 4's as well as snow melts with all the salt they use here quickly. I would prefer Blizzaks if we had hard pack all through the winter but those arent even available (on national backorder).

Unless you're lowered, I don't see why going over-height by 5% will matter. I run a square 225/45R18 with no problems - unless your rear offset is really aggressive I don't foresee a problem, unless you're lowered.

Apparently the fronts are 8" ET32 and the rears are 9.5" ET35. Is that too aggressive? Not lowered.

You will have very limited choices in winter tires with those sizes. Tirerack is showing a single one (Yokohama) in 225/45R18 and 255/40R18. You will be better off getting a dedicated winter tire/wheel set. I went with 225/45R17 square setup which has plenty of sidewall and great selection of tires.

Dedicated cheap winter wheels will cost you like $450. Get the smallest size that will clear your calipers, probably 17". 225/45R17 are cheaper too.
You can get 4 Michelin Xi3 with TPMS sensors mounted and balanced AND shipped to your door for around $1090 after rebate. |

I would recommend just getting a dedicated winter set. Squared is generally preferred with a narrow tire to cut through snow.
