That is correct. You can remove DFP for racing only.

Update on the car: Dealership isn't budging on anything, including cost on repairs. Looking at about $4700. I've suggested they replace everything but the DPF, but Nick isn't sure the car will run with the DPF in its current state. Way I see it, the sensors have to be replaced regardless, no matter how I proceed, so getting a quote just for that. Looks like the car is going to have to be garaged until I find another DPF, or I find a shop that's willing to do the DPF delete and coding.

Probably so, but I just saw race last weekend with diesel powered Mazda’s smoking like a chimney! I assumed they must have removed DPF and bribe somebody. LOL

I am sure if they decide to register the car, they will have some a problems. The whole "for race use only" was a nice loophole for all those dealers to keep selling parts that didn't meet EPA or any other agency. If you never register your car and drive it on the track only, EPA wouldn't care and you can remove your DPF.

I think we are beginning to see long term effects of modding these cars. I know when I had the JBD, the car would go into regen much more often. You also have to wonder if they also caused some of the injector problems. I sure enjoyed the car with the JBD,but from now on, I'm leaving it stock.

I ran the JBD on my car for 3 years without issue. I really don't think this has anything to do with the tune.

Personally, I am still undecided, but I did have an SA just tell me he had a granny driven car with carbon issues that they compared to a car where the owner ran JBD....JBD was spotless.

With the DPF delete, comes the smoke and smell. I would go back to gas, if I had to put up with that stuff. I really like the car, but even with mods,it's still a 4000 lb family car. I just don't think it's worth the trouble.

Btw. Just read the technical training manual that was recently posted in another thread...interesting that EU spec has a backpressure sensor upstream of the DPF, while US does not. Might have clued you in before the meltdown!

Car would have gone into limp sooner, which may have prevented a lot of damage...this is true.

Nielson, your car does not have SCR, correct? My hope is that removing DPF but keeping SCR in place would help to prevent the SOX/NOX smell.

Nope My car does not have SCR.
I actually just found this nice little video explaining how std. DPF/SCR is working on a US spec. car.

Word from the enviro side

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that I'm not in favor of anyone removing their emissions equipment, including DPF and SCR. (I'm not going to follow actions with words, but I feel the need to make my opinions on this known.)

We removed lead from gasoline (petrol) due to it's health consequences - very clear link to lead poisoning. We want to get rid of the soot due to it's clear links to lung cancer (and developing links to other cancers, and other health problems due to it.) You guys aren't helping.

Further, if you read TDIWyse's threads, I think it's clear that the DPF (and really the SCR, too) aren't causing any major performance problems, given intelligent tuning changes: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=760638.

Besides, I like my clean tailpipes, and removing your DPF/SCR is going to cause you to have to clean them all the time.
