Asking for Trouble?

I'm looking at getting a RO polisher and all the material I require to try to remove the swirls from my BSM paint. a few questions:

1. Am I asking for trouble by trying to do this on a black paint job myself?

2. Everybody raves about the Porter Cable RO polishers. Are they really worth 4 x as much as a handheld RO Polisher? (Canadian Tire PC: $189.99, Simoniz: $49.99)

3. What pads should I be using for what step? There are Foam, Microfibre, Terry Cloth etc...

Thank in advance for any advice.

get the griots garage 6", the porter cable is too weak. Plus the griots has a lifetime warranty.

Also forget the simoniz crap or any of those 30-60$ machines, that's more of a wax spreader then a machine capable of removing defects.

A few good canadian sites to buy from are oldetownautospa (i order from him, he seems to have the best prices in canada), eshine, and autoobsessed.

Then buy some products, do some reading, watch some vids, and do it yourself. It's not so bad. Autogeek has a good forum, but you will need to do some reading before you jump into it.

Garage List
It's not as daunting as you think. Take your time, do small sections of the car one at a time. This is a good primer:

It is hardly daunting at all, I use a rotary buffer by Skil and still didn't do ANY damage by using common sense.
