So i was thinking why can we just drill 4 holes add a adapter plate for a cone filter and remove our crappy paper one add a small cone filter and bolt it all up. Well it was very easy.
I love it ive noticed the gain in low end tq is still there but top end still pulls hard as well.

So for the cost of $380 - $420 for euro box. I made mine for the cost of $40

It dose the job and im still gonna invest in a euro box just to see on a dyno if my Euro (US modded) box makes the same HP as the REAL EURO Intake.

Dont hate on the crappy cut outs they are all sanded down and are all even.
Also anyone wanan gimie there US stock box for trade for my injen plus $50 Cash??

Cone filter specs for perfect fitment and still leaves box with room to close
5.5 In. Od Base/4.75 In. Od Top, H-6.25 In

Parts Used from local auto parts
Spectre - 8148 (Air intake flange mount) <--- Its plastic and u will need two to mount back to back. Since our US box has a curve in like a velocity stack. pics will show u what i mean. Since one will work it just wont mount flush it will leave a gap on eather side. So two mounted back to back makes a nice fitment and fits very snug. You will need to cut out a bit of the mount once its recessed in or else MAF wont fit. You will also need a Few bolts & nuts.
K time for PICSSS

Stock Box

Drilled holes for mounting flange to box

Flange part number and Flange

Flange mounted

Cut flange for MAF to fit

Flange fitment

Bolts and nuts

Box 80% done

Shot of filter and box bolted all up

Hope u guys like it and im excited to see what the HATERS gotta say!
Have A Marry Xmas Guys!!!!
Have you found someone to make the trade for the stock air box?

Hmm I should of waited to do this instead of buying the K&N drop-in >:

Ninja - AutoZone for the parts OP used. I believe Spectre/Air duct mount plate Part # 8148 and Cone air Filter Spectre P3 Part #9132 (Correct me if I'm wrong please :]).

Can anyone fill me in if this is better to do than the K&N drop-in?

Hate to revive an old thread but does anyone still have this running? Any Pro/Cons with the simple mod?

Need some small projects to do during spring lol

Been running it for about a year, i had a afe intake before i installed this. And let me say this mod is waaaay better than the AFE intake and a fraction of the cost. I had a serious lack of torque on the low end with the AFE but good pull at the high end.

This mod gave me back my low end torque AND still had the pull in the high end! This mod is a major WIN! Plus some cyba scoops to complete the setup

Sweet thanks will be doing this when temps get warmer. Did you use everything described in the threat? The mount and filter etc or did you use different parts?

I used everything mentioned except i bought a bigger filter on accident and had to modify my air box to fit it inside. But it's a very simple mod actually.

ive had it done for 4months or so.

good to go so far. It does pull a tad harder in the upper rpms, nothing crazy tho. just a bit better than stock.

I used a pre oiled filter and have not cleaned it or anything so far. but there is a small hole in my airbox so everything would fit.

does anyone realize that airflow through a filter is basically a function of surface area? just because it's a cone-shaped filter doesn't mean it flows better, the number of pleats and size of that cone is definitely worse than the stock paper filter. the only possible way it could flow better is if it has bigger pores in the filter media, in which case you still don't get any better flow but you let more dirt in your engine..

Yes, I knew this. And yes, cotton media does flow better, and yes it doesn't filter as well.

surface area still matters - the stock filter has way, way more pleats than that, plus a larger raw footprint. if the cotton media flows 50% better (not likely), but has 2/3 the surface area, you gain nothing but a dirty motor.

so wouldn't a cone filter have a smaller surface area (for the smaller one that would fit in the box)? So why would it be better for performance, just asking as this is something that always made me hesitate to do this custom intake....
