This is exactly why I'm afraid of purchasing a 335i . lots of members on here even frown upon it. Truth is I probably won't be purchasing a CPO car because the dealers jack the price up like 5 grand
More then the cars worth . There is 2 pages on auto trader full of 335i coupes with 20 -30k miles on them for under 30 grand. These prices sound fishy 2 you? Allthese cars appear to be in very good condition . Well at least the ones I'd consider

Fishy? No. Sad? Yes. For the sellers anyway.

Used cars prices have nosedived in the past several months. My 335 is leased and ends in August and I've knocking around the idea of an E39 M5 or E46 M3. You would not believe what some these cars are selling for. For around $20K you can get a well document, low miles example of either of these. If you look hard enough, you can pay less.

There is no doubt, it a great time to buy. New or Used.

Not at all. My car has been dependable and is a fantastic machine. I've been watching the used BMW market like a hawk for a month now and most of the cars listed are not selling. Not even at these low prices.

My 335 listed for $45,815, however I negotiated a much better number for my lease. After a 30 month lease, my residual (buy out) price is $29,7XX. I would bet that BMWFS would be willing to shave off a couple grand just to keep me in the car. I could be wrong, but that's what I'm hearing. My car is immaculate and will have only 23-24k miles at lease end. $27-28K doesn't seem so bad, but I think I'm reading for something a little different.

If you are worried about hpfp failures etc. then that is exactly why you need to buy CPO. You at least have that peace at mind for another 2y/50k. Maintaining a BMW can get expensive if you aren't the DIY type person. Heck even without DIY type stuff it can be expensive. Just something to consider. I'm also contemplating an 07 335i and won't look at anything that isn't CPO.

if you can find a good cpo 335i you like then get it

a new stang gt is also nice and supports the american worker and economy

both are great choices, shop around and drive both, the choice will be clear then...

I found myself in the same boat last year (the Bullitt is a nice option).
I went 335i - a close friend and fellow car nut went Mustang GT.
We haven't hit the roads together yet but I'm sure straight line performance will be close. Once we hit the curves that live-axle will drop anchor on him.
I actually saw the bmw image as a negative but there's no denying the critics, fans and enthusiasts.
I love everything about it. No regrets at all AND i've had the TPMS issue.
Go 335.

P.S. - I'm waiting for a JB+ which will add 50hp to the wheels for $cheap. My buddy's GT won't keep up in a straight line then...

bullitt package with optional HIDs is pretty sweet. And you can get the GT500 for about the same price as a 335. Try em both see what you like better. apples and oranges and will boil down to your personal tastes

EDIT: NASA puts the GT in a higher base class for time trials than the 335. it isn't immediately clear to me that the 335 will 'smoke' the mustang on a road course, especially since the mustang which has a stock LSD will be able to put the power down effectively on corner exit. run em and see what happens

Most owners of either car are very loyal to their make/model. Test drive them both and determine which one suits your taste.

Wow thats a pretty big thing to say about the car, ive never read that before.

Well my major concern is definitely the HPFP and the only reason id by a CPO'ED car is for that extra 2yr/50k mile warranty. But you know what if the right car turns up and i can get the history on the car and see what issues it may or may not have had ill probably pull the trigger. I know the 2 cars are completely different ,but these are just the cars i'm interested in purchasing , i don't think that because they are in different classes means this isn't a negotiable subject.

As others ,and you have stated a test drive will be in order. Whenever the mustang hits showroom floors mind you.

Also keep in mind that a HPFP is $500 or so. Maybe $800 with dealership labor? It's not like the cost of replacing, say, a transmission.

my 335 has 7500 miles on it after almost one year ...

let's see...

1) somebody kicked in the RR quarter panel
2) the washer pump leaked
3) various squeaks and rattles in summer which the dealer have been able to somewhat fix - im gonna take this is inevitable on a heavy car with stiff suspension

on the plus side, i truly LOVE driving the 335i and I love the way it looks, but against a brand new Mustang GT (2010 model), it'd be a tough one.

a new new new GT tops out at $35k with all the bells and whistles, including the track pack and the fancy new nav.. it also looks awesome AND i love V8s..

read the new motor trend/c&d review on the stang GT.. they actually like it and mentions that it stops as quickly as a 128i and almost as good as the 370Z on the skidpad

I went through the exact same debate, I owned a number of mustangs over the years so I am a Ford Fan to say the lease.

When I was going to buy a new car it was the Shelby Mustang or 07 335I, plus a number of runner ups. At the time you had to pre-order the Shelby since they were not due to release for a period of time. I kept going back an forth between the Mustang and the 335I. Over time and as price of gas rose and after seeing a guy about my age driving a red GT I decided it would look bad for a 40something driving a Shelby, it was like I had something to prove.

Well I got one of the very first 335I in the US, order it in Sept 06 took delivery in Nov. I can tell, even with the few problems had, (waste gate tapping) the car was the right decision. It is fast, and handles great and you do not look like someone trying to relive their youth in it. I can say I had buyers remorse too ever time I see a Shelby or GT go buy.

About 4 months ago, need to replace the wife's van so we are looking at the FORD Flex. While the wife was test driving that I asked to play with the Shelby on the lot, plus a GT and Roush 427 Super charge mustang. Yes they are fast, but scary fast, The lack of knowing if the car is just about to loose control is not a fun feeling after driving a 335I for 2 yrs.

What told me I made the right decision was the after driving all those cars and noticing how load they were all time. The problem with the stangs is the constant engine and exhaust noise. I love the sound but driving that ever day really wears on you. I would hate having to hear that day in and day out. When I drive home after a long day, I just want to relax and enjoy the drive not listen to the roar of the car.

I still want to get a mustang, but more for a weekend driver not and everyday car.
