Free Stage 2 Dinan flash...yes or no?
I have an opportunity to get the stage 2 flash from Dinan for no charge. Should I do it or pass? I have looked at this and JB4 and Cobb.
Right now I'm running DCI, Stett CP but planning on DP's and FMIC and meth. Do I have more options with aftermarket products working well with JB4 or cobb than with Dinan? And I don't plan on buying all Dinan products b/c they are massively pricey. I know that the stage 2 is suppose to give increase boost to 13.5 and an increase in hp/torque of 78/116 but this is at the crank. What would it be at brake HP/torque? How is this compared to JB4 or Cobb? I'm just seeing what options I have and knowing that Dinan is an option is kinda nice but I want all the upgrades that I have and will have to work cohesively with each other. |

I'm partial towards the other tunes. I've always seen Dinan as expensive, but you can't argue with free. I don't know that their is a downside to upgrading to stage 2. Upgrade to stage 2. If you get bored, you know that you can jump ship and get more HP. The other tunes seem to give you a gain of about 95hp/95lb at the wheels vs ~60hp/100lb for Dinan 2
Since you are thinking of running meth, JB4 and Procede let you boost to about 16.5 with the mods you are planning. Cobb will probably be similar with a modified stage 2 map. Obviously, there will be a big difference between 16.5 psi and 13.5psi that Dinan stg 2 allows. |

Idk if its worth it.
Bmw will void your warranty and say go to dinan to fix it...and well dinan did it for free so I doubt theyll cover it... Just get a procede imo |

Yeah, my car is not a CPO and it's normal warranty has expired. I haven't decided onthe extended warranty yet as it depends on getting Dinan or not. As you know Dinan only covers the first 4 yrs or 50k miles and any extended warranty doesn't cover if modded, Dinan or not. So if I were to do Dinan and something were to happen Dinan won't cover it and extended warranty says too bad so sad you shouldn't have modded. I may take my chances and not get any warranty and I know some really good shops nearby and they do good work on BMWs. If i need to i can rely on their services. And again, I may not pick Dinan and get the extended warranty for peace of mind.

I'm a second owner of my vehicle and this vehicle had S2 before. Once someone purchases Dinan flash, it stays with the vin #. So I can get it reflashed at any time. My car probably lost it's S2 somewhere b/w the prior owner and me owning the car. I know the car had a "tuneup" and HPFP recall right before i owned it so perhaps it was erased. When I bought it I didn't know and until recently my SA said something about a Dinan S2 on some recent warranty work. At first, I thought he confused me with another person but he grabbed his BMW paperwork and said, "shows here you got Dinan S2!"
I was like "sweet!" So after further research, Dinan confirmed my vin # had S2. So I could get it reflashed at any authorized Dinan for FREE! My dealership is an authorized Dinan dealer so it's convenient. I have my car for nearly 1.5 years and knew nothing about Dinan in it. So to all 2nd/3rd owners, always ask your SA if there is a possible Dinan tune hibernating in your car You'll never know whacha gonna find! Last edited by TxBeem; 08-23-2011 at 05:43 PM.. So sounds like you can't get the extended warranty anyway since it has been a logged Dinan Car? May as well reflash until you get bored and want more from a JB4/Procede

A BMW dealer friendly Dinan shop...and you are still thinking about it?!
Agree with the above posts, you do not qualify for the extended warranty so you might as well get the flash for free and if you get bored you can upgrade later to more hp/tq but remember that the added boost can have its consequences especially if you are out of warranty, i.e., you're on your own. after spending the last 2 hours reading up on Dinan S2 in this forum and hearing from you folks, I'm gonna do it! WhyTF not? It's free and it will always be free on my car and yes if I do get bored of it I can get the JB4.
Now I've also read that some S2 users are stacking either JB+ or JB4 ontop their S2 tune. I'm gonna contact Terry and see if that is "safe" or not. I have been running JB+ for the past year at 75%. So hopefully it will be a wow factor for me when S2 is flashed. I'll let you guys know. |

Normally i would say hell no..but for free..do it..
I am just as curious as others how you got Dinan to give you a tune for free..they usually send you a bill if they speak to you on the phone.. |

Do it! Dinan is a fairly conservative tune, and with you being out of warranty it might a better option long-term than running something a bit more aggressive for a little extra power.

I have had Dinan stage 2 and just qualified (and just got BMW EVP platinum). I don't think it voids warranty. PS the dealer is not Dinan certified and knows all about the Dinan sooftware

Nothing against the Dinan tune but you wont be able to maximize performance gains of all your mods with it. If you plan on adding methanol you really wont reap all the benefits of it either. This is strictly talking from a performance view. The Dinan tunes are a great conservative tune but not feature or power enriched like other tunes. |
