Interesting (or scary) Buyer

Hi all,

I’m selling my bimmer as below

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608111

And I got an offer from other forum – the funny thing is, the one who offered would like to pay via PayPal. I’m wondering, I’m not a car dealer/seller and I will not have a PayPal to accept payment. Though it is not a big money, we are talking about HK$100+, will someone pay such amount via PayPal?

Anyway, I have refused and asked for money order or direct bank-in, he (I don’t know if it is a HE/SHE) accepted and asked for my bank account number.

I have never encountered a buyer who keep pushing me to take his money without any questions about the car. I have asked his mobile, when he would like to have a look on the car, when he would like to transfer the registration…. All he said is he will proceed the payment ASAP (I gave him my bank info, a bit regret now).

Usually, a buyer should be more worry than the seller as buyer is the one who pay, but I'm the one who worry now.

Do you guys have any of this experience or is this some kind of traps I need to pay attention to?

What if he really bank in the money and no further contact??

A similar thing happened when my bro was selling his motorbike in Sydney. The guy claimed he was holidaying off his yacht and couldn't make time to view the bike. But offered to transfer full payment into his account.

I believe what they will then do is claim that are only able to transfer in certain denominations and therefore you would need to transfer the difference over to them first in order to go through with the transaction…

For sure, I will not pay any penny out.

I'm even thinking if this is kind of money laundering.....

Yep smells like money laundering to me, FYI

Chapter: 455

(a) he intended to disclose to an authorized officer such knowledge, suspicion or matter as is mentioned in section 25A(1) in relation to the act in contravention of subsection (1) concerned; and
(b) there is reasonable excuse for his failure to make disclosure in accordance with section 25A(2).

(3) A person who commits an offence under subsection (1) is liable-

Be careful!

Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving PayPal, Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, shipping, escrow, or any promise of transaction protection/certification/guarantee.

If they say they have a local "agent"...it's also a scam.

Make sure the buyer has a local number in which you can call directly. Make sure you show the car in busy areas.

Good luck!

Bingo, he/she did mention "agent"!!!

Thanks all, I think I'd better ignore HIM.
