Bmw performance exhaust?
Im thinking of getting the performance exhaust for my 08 335. I've heard some youtube videos, but i'd like the opinions of everyone here who has it.
Is it exotic sounding? Does it make the car sound more turbo or naturally aspirated? What car would you compare the sound to? (i.e another bmw, a v8, etc) I just hope it does not sound ricey or tacky in person, but exciting! Last edited by rondocap; 03-08-2012 at 11:02 AM.. |

Hi Rondocap,
I've got the PE and catted 3" DP's fitted to my LCI touring. In the UK, the LH rear box comes with the flapper valve and I've tried it with [flapper deaactivated which I believe is how US PE systems are sold w/o the valve] and without "golf tee" [stock ie flapper valve active] mod. I keep my PE with flapper valve active as it sounds fantastic!! If you search enough on youtube there's video clips of both Euro and US versions of PE, the car licence plates and/or any narration hints at which side of the Atlantic the cars are...... It sounds better in the flesh than on You Tube trust me !!! Hope this helps. Cheers, Pave |

I have read some postings online that deactivating the flapper can have some negative effects reducing low end torque. Did you sense any loss of torque while you were experimenting with the golf T mod (on/off)? In any event, I agree with you as to having the flapper engaged. I like the way it comes in (audibly) at specific RPM ranges and conversely quieted during around town cruising speeds. Regards, Bill |

From everything I've personally heard, the PE sounds best to my ears. With that being said, if I change my exhaust I'd rather do a full cat back so I can get a lighter system with a little better bump in performance. Now if I can get something that sounds like the PE and get the weight savings of a cat back, I'd be golden.

Rear boxes only is correct for e92 and 93 but for the e90 and e91 it's the mid section too hence why is nearly double the price compared to 2 door models.

I have catted 3" DP's and piggyback tune. Pushing at 400+ bhp and 430+ lbft at the crank so PE is working well. Sounds great and Daddy's taxi goes like stink hee hee

No loss in torque regardless of which map I'm using but that's probably a lot to do with 3" catted DP's fitted. To be honest, it sounds bad with flapper open and twitches a few drapes in Surburbia as I rumble down my street on my early morning commute. Not good for neighbourly relations..... |

Soo you guys are interested in sound over performance? You can just use speakers to playback a sound of exhaust you want...maybe a lamborghini.
