Water/Meth in the winter
I randomly thought of this on the way to work today: For all you guys that have a real winter (see: snow) and run meth do you see any benefits at all running water/meth when the air is already so cold or do you switch it to 100% meth in the winter months?
i know it's a little early to be thinking about winter, but I'm ready for the snow Last edited by jpsimon; 08-02-2010 at 09:20 AM.. |

That's a good point but I believe that it would still help.
Remember that the air entering the intake ducts is still going through the super hot turbos before it enters the intake manifold so I believe it would still help (no matter how good your intercooler is).

I think it will help. When that cold air goes by the turbos, it get heated up even in winter. I think the meth will bring it back down close to ambient.
This is a 3rd gear pull I did in march when it was about 60F. Intake Ait Temp was around 90F and meth brought it down to about 65F. This is before I had the meth flow variable function set up to scale correctly. |

The other consideration is freezing. I think the mix needs to be at least 50/50 to avoid freezing. I think running more meth in the winter is a good idea. I run 80/20 so i may change it to 90/10 once it's colder out.

I'd run a higher concentration of meth. Hell Id run higher than 50/50 all the time anyway.
I'll be running at least 80%, tuner wants 100%. 100% means fuel cell in my trunk to be safe and exterior venting.

It's too early to think about cold weather. Has anyone done any testing on octane benefits of different mixes? Should be pretty easy to see if there's any differences with Procede autotuning. If higher % of meth helps, IC should go down and boost should go up.
I mix 80/20 because I'm pretty sure that's what Shiv recommends with his kit. That, and it's idiot proof - 1 gallon of distiller water in a 5 gal tank, fill the rest with meth. |

I ran Meth in 0 degree temps on multiple cars....one ran like shit and threw plausibility codes and the 135 would throw a egt to low code every now and again. Ran great though.

I forgot to mention that JP should be punished for bringing up winter LOL Living in a Northern climate we have 2 months of nice weather left so I don't want to think about winter
