the maaaaaaaaaaaco in killeen actually has a really good painter. i deal with a lot of shops and yes they are usually a sub par place but that only if you dont want to pay very much. they can go as cheap as you want or if you pay more you get a better job. i dont think i would have them do bodywork but they do have a good paint booth and a good painter. just my .2

The work & quality are ONLY as good as the products they use ........ which are subpar no matter how much you pay.

For the record, Jet Black is a color that they apparently have a difficult time matching.

It is! They have another event coming up this month, but I won't go again until next year once I get some decent tires. It looks like H2R will do like 4-5 of these HPDEs per year, so I don't think I'll need the merbership

ASAP ....... M3 skirts arrive Monday.

I have a deal I may work out with a body shop in the area. They want me to detail customer's cars as they're finished so maybe we can work out a trade & I can get some advertising exposure in the area.

Maaco uses DuPont paint products which is why their colors will always have a slightly darker tint to them. PPG paint is the only way to go short of the BMW factory paint.

I may have them paint the kidneys Jet Black as well. Depends on how many details I have to do.

I can't speak on all the other Maacos but for the one in Killeen. I don't know if you guys had personal experiences with them or from word of mouth but the one in Killeen is not bad at all. I first saw their work when they painted James lip, it looked great I couldn't believe he said he got it done at maaco. After that I took my first aero lip to them to have it painted and installed. It was an ebay lip so it came up short at the edges maybe 2 mm. So I then had them mold it to the edges of the bumper and repaint the whole bumper. It came out so good that nobody knew I had an ebay lip or that my bumper was repainted unless I told them it was. I also had them paint the hood and I think they did a very good job, they took out all the waviness of the carbon fiber and matched it up pretty good. Halfway through they called and ask if I could bring the car by so they can make sure the paint matches. After they did such a good job on molding and painting my bumper I had total confidence in them, I took my hood over there to be painted for Tony. They have never seen Tonys car all they had to go off of was the year of the car. I'm not saying that they are perfect I know Tony is having problems with his hood with the color matching maybe if they had his car at the shop to help match that would've helped, because they have always had my car there. They also painted my lower grills which came out pretty good. Also James and Matt has had stuff painted there as well along with alot of other people I know and the work always look good.
I never saw this post before so I'll comment now ........

I spoke with the manager of the Killeen Maaco & was essentially told the same thing with regard to matching etc. The problem would be that they would have blended into the fenders. A problem because that would then change the color tint of the fenders as well. Other POI that I mentioned were the fact that there are "fish eyes" within the paint, edges of the hood are showing red paint and that there is debris beneath the clear coat that is truly poor prep work on their part. These things wouldn't have made a difference if they had my car or not.

Maaco had the year, make, model & paint code to match the color. PPG paints are an exact match to factory colors which causes the price to usually be much more for the work. DuPont is used by Maaco which is a great product, however not when trying to match body panel colors.

Juan and I went to a couple of different body shops last week to get paint cost estimates for each of our cars. Upon seeing my car each shop asked who painted the hood and commented how off the color match is.
Quote averages @ $450 for hood repaint & $300 for the rockers. Guaranteed color match without blending.
FWIW, blending is allowed as a handicap for body shops. Not all body shops use the same brand/quality paint so they are allowed to makeup for the shortcomings by charging extra for paint blending. If blending isn't prepped/applied properly then the clear coat will show the exact area the paint was blended with the OEM in a relatively short time.

No worries here ........ I'm much more of a perfectionist than most. This causes me to see every imperfection rather than the overall appearance. It also causes me to expect quality workmanship. Having worked in a body shop long enough to pick up a few techniques also lends to being able to spot body work/repaint very easily. This includes quality of the finished product.

Maybe this week it will all be taken care of ......
