2011 LCI Headrest - newb question

Okay, I am a newb to my car after waiting 10 weeks for delivery I just picked up my '11 335d late last night from the dealer, so I haven't really had the chance to spend any time getting to know my car yet.

Okay enough with the excuses, here's my simple question -- I am a little embrassed to even be asking, but here it goes... How does one go about lowering the headrest so they go down the whole way to the point where they are sitting flush with the seat? After pulling the car into the garage last night, I noticed the passeger headrest was up slightly and the driver's headrest was down completely -- This kind of shit drives me nuts -- call me OCD. I spent all of 5 minutes looking at the passenger seat, pushing buttons, pushing, pulling, etc, but it stops about 1 1/2" above the seat so there is a noticable gap between the headrest and seat. So I started messing with the driver's headrest which was already sitting flush mind you, so I raised it, but once I raised it I could not get it back down flush -- well at least they match now. I am sure there is something I am missing, so how do I get the damn things down all of the way?

I don't think you can. It has to do with the active head restraints

In order for them to work in a crash; you need gap at the bottom so the head restraint can swivel forward.

Got my 2011 for 2 weeks...
1. I don't think you can make it go all the way down
2. you can't tilt it on the 2011. It is fixed. My head is too small and I can't rest it on the head rest.

Thank you for the replies, makes sense. At least I don't feel as stupid for not being able to figure out something as simple as lowering a headrest.

The drivers headrest must have been lowered for delivery? Maybe the tech forgot to raise it when prepping my car, I don't know. Well they both match now although I would prefer if I could lower them so at least they are sitting flush with the seat - I don't care for looking at the 2 chrome supports. Oh well such is life I guess...

yea I am the same way, i tried lowering it, but figured it must be related to the active restraint system. The older models had really THICK headrests to do the same function, and i prefer the thinner ones, so i will live with it!
