P0128 thermostat blow regulating temp.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have already replaced the thermostat a little over 2 months ago.... The light came back on after 2 months same code. This time I was told its the water pump I replaced that 2 days ago and ses light is back on same code. What else could it be? Mind you this work has all been preformed by BMW! So very expensive.

Have you checked your coolant? If the concentration of anti-freeze is too high, it could possibly keep the coolant from achieving the temperature the engine management system expects when the evaluation is made.

This more or less assumes that the coolant was changed with an incorrect proportion of water or topped off with straight anti-freeze when the level was below the proper level.

They sell an inexpensive tool (looks like an eye dropper with writing on it) in most auto supply stores that will tell how low the temperature needs to get to freeze the mixture. You can test 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water against what is in your coolant expansion tank. The tool may even have a reference mark for 50/50 mix.

Just a thought.

if they were doing the repairs and their suggested repairs didnt fix it...id suggest you try another dealer or at the very least get a VERY significant discount on said repairs.

I done the thermostat at one and when they told me to do a water pump I did go else where. Idk how to check the coolant but should be fine since they bled the cooling system and refilled it. As far as discount from either not getting any where I have filled a compliant with better business bureau hopefully that goes somewhere. But even so still puzzled as to what the problem is. My instinct from the beginning has been a sensor but of course they won't listen to me. My car has never overheated and my heat has worked perfect through all of this!

You may want to bleed the system again. Sometimes you need to do it twice. You can do it yourself without getting dirty. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=coolant
