New Transmission Break In Period?
So, I am getting a new transmission (6mt) put in. I also threw in a new clutch since the tranny will be down anyway. Ive read that 1000-1500km of easy driving is good enough to break it in, and to do a fluid flush afterward. Does that sound about right? Some people say to break it in hard. Others say ~1500km. The clutch will take ~800km anyway, just wondering how much longer I have to go easy on it.
Also, before I knew I was going to get a new transmission, I went to get some tranny fluid from the dealer. He said that there are two kinds of tranny fluid, depending on where it was made. Apparently two identical 335s of the same year and model can have transmissions made in two different places, and require two different oils. He said the only way to tell is by checking the tag thats on it. I dont have my at the moment to check. Is there any weight to this theory? |

A reply!
I was just doing google searches and reading threads about it. Sounds like the clutch and transmission will break in together. I'll flush the tranny fluid after about 1500km. Sucks because the transmission isnt going in for another week, then two more weeks to break it in. And my tune is about to arrive this week! |
