Automatic Night Mode on Sat Nav?

Hey all,

Does anyone know whether its possible to set the Sat Nav Map to automatically switch to Night Mode when its either dark (lights come on auto) or past a certain time?

I find it a pain having to switch manually through the options whereas on my old car it would do it automatically when i turn the lights on. Unfortunately this doesnt happen on my e92 335d as i have automatic lights.

Thanks

FPO

I don't think it's possible.

However, on mine I've set button number 1 as a shortcut to this option so I can switch between modes at a single touch.

Yep same here, assign a short cut button to it. same as for switching the display off completely, instant home button for the satnav, journey and onboard computer.

I know, especially as there is a light sensor for the headlights!

Without wanting to sound stupid

Where is the setting for night mode? - I had a quick look through the settings and whilst I could see a brightness adjustment I couldn't see a night mode....

The twatnav is crap anyhow.
I parked next to a new coupe last week and it had a tomtom mounted in front of the iDrive screen

FYI Nick, you press options on the idrive whilst on Map and it should be there for you to turn on and off. Wish it came on automatically tbh on a £45k car. My £25k audi had it :s

I've done the same.

The memory buttons are quite helpful actually.

1 sets the nav for home
2 toggles night mode
3 dials my voicemail
4 dials the office
5 rings the wife

While showing the map screen, knock the joy stick over to the right, which should show a split screen menu, and night view option should be about a third of the way down the list.

Yes, and it was annoying in all those cars too. My wifes 56 Civic does it and its infuriating!

The light level that you need headlights on and the light level that you want night map sat nav are very different IMO.

You would generally want lights on just before, or at dusk, or in fog or rain, but I don't want night sat nav until its DARK.

As said, button 8 memory means it changes just perfect every time!

I disagree doughboy. The Brightness didnt seem to change when it went into night mode on my audi. The colours used just changed to dark colours rather than light ones.

On my E Class the nav uses the sensor in the windscreen to change to night mode, so even if the lights come on it doesn't always switch, so if it rains for example the headlights come on but the nav stays in day mode, only when it actually gets dark outside will it switch.
Also, the brightness setting has a memory for day and night, so I have it on +5 for day and -5 for night.

There is also a light sensor in the unit too, so the brightness adjust again depending on how bright it is in the cabin.

Really, really nice system.

yep, don't memorise the view, memorise the command.

go to the menu option for 'set night view' and where you would select it, press and hold 8 instead.

done.

I had no idea you could even do that.

I've had the car for 2 years... one of these days maybe I'll read the owner's manual.

Same as on the F-series BMW cars. At last.
