i drive knob removal
Looks Great!! my e90 has a rubber inlay strip going all the way around the outside of the knob that gives a good tactile response when using it.
Does the I dive knob knob simply pull off?

What you did looks great but I have read this over and over again and still can not make any sense out of your DIY. I guess more pictures would help....
I am assuming what you are doing is gutting the 5 series knob and putting the 3 series knob in it???? Just like others, i also am not quite sure why the leathrette piece needs to come out of the 5 series know.... In no part of your DIY you have an explanation for this.... Very nice job though..... I wish I was clear on what you exactly did to be able to do it myself. Edit.... what we need is a picture of the 3er knob after the machine shop was done w/ it and a picture of the 5er knob before you put the smaller knob in it..... that would help out a lot....

I did this same mod, but used the 2008 M3 knob instead. With the aluminium trim I think it looks kick ass and sporty.

custom-made Idrive knob for 3 series
Hi there,
I'm writing to you from Asia. By chance I found your thread, I'm COMPLETELY SURPRISED someone was on the same thought of turning this 5 series idrive knob for 3 series car! WOW!. I found the same idrive knob on a local shop but to discover it's for E60 and would not fit into my e90 325 (2006). I saw what you did but still I dun quite fully understand how you could make that work. I would really appreciate if you could enlighten me on my retro fit. I really need to get in touch with you asap, my email address is calvia_cs@yahoo.com.sg I could share more with you on what I did and to learn on how I could have my ride fit with that low profile knob. Thank you and look forward to your reply. |
