2011 E92 Car overheat

Today I was driving to work. While I'm driving around 80 mph, I'm pressing the gas and not getting any power. About an 20 minutes later after I got off the highway. The car said overheat. Then it said turn of the car then turn it back on. And if the overheat sign comes on again I should see my dealer. Does anyone know what this is. Please help. It's my first BMW.

08' so not a huge surprise, but certainly not expected... Independent charged me $1100 including the tow, which I knew was high, but didn't have much choice at the time.

Well I am hitting 60k miles soon...E92 328i never had a single problem.
but i will be going on a road trip this summer (~3k miles). Should I replace it before I leave?

Water pumps are the main thing that will strand your car and yours will fail sometime; sadly no way to predict when. You may be good for another 10K or 20K or not; lots of folks have posted failures at much lower mileage than yours.

My water pump/thermostat failed at 54K on my 2007 E90 (cost ~$1200 to repair at dealership). I'm at 80K now and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable driving my car on even a 150 mile road trip; sad but true.

Great thread on water pump failures to scare yourself: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=684211

You might as well do it now, you are on borrowed time at this point.
