Installing used FRM3 on E90 328xi

I recently picked up an E90 328xi that has a shorted FRMFA due to hitting max 50 low beam errors (depo xenons with bad cancellers)

I've ordered a used FRM3 as a replacement and I'm wondering if my friend programs the car with ISTA will it write my cars VIN and VO to the used FRM? Or will the module need more in-depth coding via the tools I've read about on here (winkfp, ncsexpert, tool32, etc).

I'm relatively new to this stuff and likely have no idea what I'm talking about, so any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Your friend can do it much more easier with NCSEXPERT, he doesn't need ISTA for it.
If he works for BMW and use original ISTA from the dealer then he won't be able to program your car with newer FRM3 that didin't come out with your car from factory.

Anyway it can be easily done using k+dcan cable and NCSexpert.

Would you be able to provide more info on this process? All he has is the latest ISTA software and k+dcan cable

more details about VO here:

https://www.google.pl/webhp?sourceid...ite+vo+bmw+pdf

Everything else you will find on this forum, you should just start learning basic coding at the first.

As cryptomit says, ISTA P won't help you.

Does your vehicle has FRM1 at the moment? Going from FRM1 to FRM3 is a headache. You may need to change some pins to avoid errors as FRM3 was LCI models I believe.

Correct procedure to avoid errors would be along the following:

1. Flash module with WINKFP and your VIN.
2. Write your FA to FRM3 from CAS module using ncsexpert.
3. Also using ncsexpert code FRM3 back to default using expertmode profile.

Then depending on what hardware you have you may need to code out errors.

I saw a couple threads on here saying FRM3 had to be repinned on e87 1-series but haven't been able to find anything about re-pinning on an E90

I am a little obsessed and like correct i-level so will always try and match module firmware to the rest of the vehicle. Easiest way for me to do this is to flash with winkfp.

But you are right, tool32 is an equally good way for vin change.

I flashed it with winkfp and code to default with ncs. (E90 2006 with frm3 and stock tail lights)
If you don't care about the follow me home lights then code it with #0307 and there won't be any issue with the tail lights.

Let me know if you code it as frm3 with stock tail lights how you get them to work the correct way.

Did you change the pins as they are different on lci models than pre-LCI AFAIK?

No pins changes.
If you use #0307 you code with pre-lci tail lights.

I installed FRM3 in my E91 build date 0705 and coded it myself, evrything worked great until I upgraded to facelift front and rear. I have added +MUH2 in VO and coded FRM3 and CIC but right front angel eye went to short just like in E87 cars. I also had my car coded with Autologic and got even more problems. Autologic added +xfrm in VO for FRM3. I'm now pretty sure we need to repin to make this work in pre face cars. If anybody have the solution please advice.

Don't use Autologic. It just makes everything worse.
What type of FRM3 are you using?

I'm using FRM3 Max Brose. Front problem is right Angel report short circuit because of larger bulb (35W) compared to pre face (10W). Rear lights are working correctly but computer reports error with rear right and left.

I would suggest to do the coding over with ncsexpert.

Did you program the xenon's in? Requires vehicle order coding. Is it just one side that's not working for you or both?
