I used to run Amsoil 2000 in my 2001 330i.. Ran great. Infact, that car was an auto and the aux fan would usually come on after getting home. After the oil swap, the aux did not come on and the car felt much better especially at startup.
Haven't touched the oil my ZHP.. doubt I will in the e92. |

Not for engines made with high tech processes with tight tolerances

just changed my oil this past monday with mobil1 0w-40.
can somebody let me know what the retail and normal price is for an n52 oil filter? i got one last year from a local dealer for about $12. this past monday it was $20!! i saw crown is only charging $7 for a oil filter (part # 11-42-7-566-327). think i'm going to pick up a couple of them and just stock up.

$12 is the right price from a dealer.

Can someone tell me where to get the mobile1 0W40 in Los Angeles? The Pepboys that I usually go to told me nobody will carry it b/c they hardly sell the stuff. |

Actually, I just went to Stevens Creek BMW last week. The list price went up to $20 as others mentioned, but they sold it to me for $14 ea (not $12) when I bought 3, along with 2 cases of oil at $5.60 per qt (that was a great deal). Then again, I bought 2 cases, lol.

Castrol Syntec last time at 3,000 miles, this time at 6k I used Royal Purple and used 5w-20 because of the warm cali climate i dont need a 5w-30, i dont need cold weather protection so thin and low viscous oils are what i go for

FYI, Advanced Auto Parts has an online store...maybe I'll just go that route. But if anyone knows an actual store in the LA area, that'd be helpful. |

the walmarts around here used to carry 0w-40, but don't any more. so that might be worth a try, but not guaranteed. Quote:
i'm done with that place though. i have other bmw friends that have had problems with their parts department too. seems like they just like to make up prices at times. one of the last times i went there they wanted $10 for a quart of bmw 5w-30, lol. i also decided to stock up on oil filters. i bought a couple from crownbmw.com for $7 each. with shipping, it came out to about $10 each. crown bmw ftw!!

You bring back a three year old thread?
Edge 5W-30, as sold in the United States, is not even close to meeting BMW LL01. It is not even ACEA A3. From Castrol; "SAE 5W-30: is the most recommended grade in today’s new cars. Exceeds all car and light truck manufacturer’s warranty requirements for the protection of gasoline, diesel and turbocharged engines where API SM, SL, SJ or CF is recommended. Exceeds European ACEA: A1/A5, B1/B5; GM 6094M; GM 4718M; Ford WSS M2C929-A and all requirements of ILSAC GF-4 for API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils and meets Energy Conserving Standards." It may be a fine oil. It probably is, in fact. But it does not meet the specifications for this application. |
