Cold Start - E92 330D

Hi all,

The last few mornings on cold start my e92 330d has struggled to start, and just as i'm about to give up, fires up.

On start up it seems to run rough for about 10 seconds and then calms and is fine.

The issue only seems to be on cold start when the car has been left over night.
Doesn't seem to have a problem after leaving the car all day at work and starting in the evening.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

A few people are having this problem. On the N57 it seems to be fairly complicated:

Otherwise on pre LCI and even some post LCI cars its about finding the fault and correct diagnostic. Do yourself a favour and get to a BMW garage for the right diagnostic.

Glowplugs
Preheating (glowplugs) control module
Faulty EGR and intake
DDE

Sometimes solved by just a simple DDE software update, sometimes all the above and worse a new DDE...

Thanks, i'll have a read and see if i can get it checked out.

Strange how it only happens when it has been left overnight and doesnt seem to throw any error codes up.

My car is pre LCI

I would look to invest into a Carly adapter if you are looking to keep the car for a while. http://www.mycarly.com/product/bmw-app

It will cost £55 and then about £40 for the app. However, it is a good investment as garages will charge you between £40 to £80 to read and clear a code.

You can then fault find and code your car at your hearts content without going back to the garage each time.

I had similar issue to you but mines the N57 engine. The glow plugs and glow controller were at fault but before you go down that route get the car scanned first.

I think the dealer option is a good idea but on an older car this can work out really expensive and not cost effective. My advice use a local specialist or garage you trust.

Best of luck. Hope you get it sorted quickly
