Car was keyed -insurance?

So this is the second time this has happened to my car in the past month, and my 2 passenger doors say pussy, roof has a nice gouge in it, and so does the trunk lid.

I have heard that I need a police report? Is that really true, I highly doubt anyone will have seen it happen, and if so they will be impossible to find, because really most people don't care about someone else's property in a college town. I was just going to call my insurance company and see what they say. I'm also talking to my landlord about getting a different parking spot.

Pluh, this is so frustrating.

Had this happen to me (key gash across my hood) earlier in the year. You do not need a police report as 99% of the time there's no camera to see it and quite honestly there isn't a police department that is going to go sniffing for the culprit.

Insurance will take care of this for you using your deductible. Some companies will raise your rates and some will not considering that it's not your fault.

That's what I figured, will insurance let me take it to a shop of my choice?

uhh they'll probably just take an estimate for the damage and then give you a check in that amount after subtracting the deductible. you can take your money anywhere... at least thats how my insurance goes.

^ That is most likely the case. They will have a list of their preferred shops but you should be able to take it to a shop of your choice. They will just base the amount that they give you off of what their preferred shops would charge.

Let's see a pic. Some punk keyed my car last year and I knew who it was, but I couldn't prove it. Shit makes me so mad.

Tough to capture in photos because the car is white. I'll try and get a few later, cloudy weather not making it any easier.

Yes, you can take it to a shop of your choice. AND, if that amount is higher than the estimate they provided, you can usually argue for the greater amount. Insurance companies rarely give you the full value you deserve right away. They want you to work for it.

If this is the second time in a month chances are it's going to happen again. Someone obviously doesn't like you as they actually spelled out pussy instead of just straight keying your car. People like this pisses me off, instead of confronting you they puss out and destroy your property. If I were you I would get a game camera like the one hunters use and set it up in a good spot. A game camera will take pictures as soon as it detects movement. I think if they've done it twice they're willing to do it again.

My insurance has a list of approved providers so I just take it to the shop I want and pay the shop my deductible and they take care of the rest with the company.

I can also take it to a non approved provider but it is more of a hassle and one of the preferred ones is the one I would take it to anyway so...

Why wouldn't he have to pay the deductible?

I know a few people in the car world. We got some discounts on the paint and labor and it balanced right out.
