I dunno how much more power it'll add though. It seems stock airbox(oem) is already pretty free-flowing. GruppeM did gain some noticible horsepower, so following their design is the best in my opinion. but that'll cause whole different intake housing.
DTM who has the intake duct from gruppeM should make a caste of this piece then sell it....ill be contacting them with this idea!

Simota Air Intake Syetem Information

lux.sh,

Where did you get your Simota air induction system? Do they have a website? What does it cost?

Does Simota have a website describing the system and predicted performance improvements for the E90?

Thanks.

need help: TO ANYONE WHO INSTALLED THIS UNIT

I cant seem to be able to get the intake DUCT and the intake HOUSING to fit together. To be more precise, i cannot get the Duct to fit where the OEM duct fit. it just doesnt line up for some reason. Maybe my OEM alarm cable is getting in the way? but i dont think that should be an issue! Also, did simota provide us with anything to attach the damn Duct to the frame? I dont have anything to actually attach it to the frame??

secondly, on my intake HOUSING, the housing that is held together to the aluminum maf tube, the part that is held together by the BIG (9" diamter) silver ring, it can rotate; its not tight. is that normal? I dont know if you guys know what i mean, but the housing can be turned (as in 360 degree turns) that holds the intake filter.

I need helppp! Please someone help. right now im running DUCT-less - as in im just using the intake housing and drawing in hot engine air.

I just did this with an AFE intake... Excellent writeup!!

As far as the AFE intake, it's awesome... Sounds like a real BMW now!! I'm just wondering if the computer needs a few days to learn about the new air coming in?

I remember in the early E90 days, people recommanded resetting ECU after each mod. Im not sure if that is still the trend or not.. I think I resetted mine.

I honestly think it really doesn't matter. btw, intake sound gets louder and louder after couple days.

if you follow the instructions on the turbotuner install on how to get the ecu to sleep, it does not need to reset.

I installed this and am getting annoyed with the constant CEL on every cold start (The car starts, and then the RPM gets unstable and the car shutoff with a rough rattle plus CEL) - I have to give it gas so it won't die on me. Happens when I let the car sits overnight or long hours. I did not reset my ECU when I did this. I disconnect my battery yesterday for about 2 hours and reconnect it back. This morning, I am getting CEL and it dies on me again. The CEL is not permanent and it doesn't stay after the car starts normally. Anyone has any idea what could be wrong? Intake problem? Doesn't look like the simota is air tight

It has to be intake problem. I do get that RPM unstability problem(not as bad though, just slight RPM fluctuation) during cold start, but it goes away quick. Never had such bad problem like you BMWxtreme. Sorry to hear that. and My simota intake never threw code on me.

Little tip, during install, make sure everything is AIR SEAL TIGHT. Every step should be taken very carefully making sure that everything is perfectly in place. second, when you start the car(cold start), let the car sit for a min or two before you reverse out.

I ended up returning my AFE intake because I kept getting CEL's... I checked all of the fittings and I still got the CEL.

Thanks for chipping in lux.sh and voltron1011. I am going to give it another week and see how it goes. I disconnected my battery overnight and this morning it doesn't die on me but gave me the RPM fluctuating abit and rev back up to give it more gas automatically. I will see if it will die on me again. As soon as it does, I will swap out the simota and back to stock The simota does save me abit of gas milage.

probably around 35IHP/40ITQ.

Intake for N52 engines are mostly for show/sound.
Though, Injen intake proved some power gain through dyno.

If I am installing the Simota CB2 Intake for my N52...I assume the only thing I have to remove is the stock air box correct? Basically only these images...

And then proceed with removing the MAF Sensor?
