Kenwwood KIV-BT901

I wanted to get some opinions on the new Kenwood KIV-BT901 HU. Crutchfield says it will fit in my car and I'm thinking about ordering it. The unit has built in Bluetooth, SAT radio ready, internal memory, and can support a rear view camera. Sounds pretty good to me, but there are not a lot reviews because the product just came out.

Your bigger worry is

The side effects of installing an aftermarket Head Unit in the E90 series

Its not the normal easy install that pre 90's cars are.

Depending on what already is in it.(which BMW stereo)

You cannot remove the existing head unit without the following probelms
If you have BMW SOS it will cause error codes
The audio alarms for the seat belts and other things come through the head unit
Without the OEM Head unit installed the BMW programmer at the dealership
will not be able to update your software if this is necessay
If you have logic 7 it uses a proprietary fiberoptic connection to the amp
which means you pretty much have to find away to replace the 9 channel amp and speakers.

For these reasons some mount the existing head unit in the trunk or elsewhere in the car and run there new unit as a parallel or somewhat parallel system.

Wow thanks for the information! Now it makes sense why the install shop wants to see my car before they agree to do the install. I have an appointment for next week. I have the BMW Professional HU, hopefully replacing it will not cause too much trouble. I really like the functionality of the Kenwood.

Unless the shop had direct expierence with e90's

If I were you I would take my time and read as many of the threads related to changing head units here as possible.(do a search for head units here)

Also you need to establish which system you have and what options
you have attached to the head unit such as SOS, bluetooth etc..

There are few shops even good ones that can do a e90 series 3 correctly

The three stereo models are stereo(non US model except for 2010 2011) , HI Fi or premium, L7 or logic 7
they all have the professional head unit in the US.

Also I seem to recall someone mentioned the 330 came with logic 7 standard
in 06 which would mean the amp and speakers would have to be replaced probably
with and ms-8 some amps and speakers.
