I have a 08 335xi with navi, I noticed I have an older interface compared to 09- on because of the new hd based navi's. But is there any sort of software update that I or my BMW dealer can do besides the 199$. Thanks

Maybe you should look into this, they retrofit the newer I-Drive system.

I was reading up on that, Is that basically the idrive that is in newer cars being available to older models? seems pretty expensive and i wasn't sure if maybe an update could be done to get the newer interface because the harddrive doesn't seem like that big a deal to me although it would be nice to have

Okay after reading up some more I kinda get the whole post-09 nav situation, I still have no idea what "Retrofit" means but im going to try the '11 map updates to see if it does anything

By retrofit, they basically mean that they take out the old one and retrofit or put the newer systems in, so it works with older vehicles. Besides the I-Drive HD, they also change the controller as well.

Thank you for clearing that up, I've seen it everywhere and I kinda figured thats what it meant, just a fancy term.

Idrive Screen
Idrive dvd player/cd player comes out
Idrive harddrive/cd player goes in
Controller
Wiring
-then you need coding
