How often run to redline?
Just curious. [I posted this once before in the general section but the 335 folks said they dont bother because peak power is well before redline and to re-post here].

Unfortunately this car is so slow that redlining or shifting at a high RPM is almost necessary for merging or highway driving + the power doesn't seem to drop off too much at a higher RPM.
I rarely redline the SS and never redline the AMG, you hit the speed limit too quickly... ----------------------------- Rupert, KOP meet tonight... |

i rarely need to go above 4k. i think the power is sufficient. i merge early when i get on the highway so its all okay. i think i appreciate the power a lot more since i drive a Sienna half of the week

NJ/PA drivers aren't very friendly generally speaking. Even in the city people are very aggressive. On one of my commuting roads at night people consistently travel 80-90mph in a 55 zone... highbeams and tailgating is the norm... + people missing exits and cutting you off at the last second to get in... Also some of the merging lanes are very short, so it is difficult to gradually build up speed. In nice suburban areas people generally travel the speed limit or under, but in rural areas and the city/outside the city it's ridiculous...

Technically power drops off considerably from 6500 RPM and up, so shifting before redline is a good idea.
Sometimes I ring it right out to 7300 rpm (AA tune boosts redline 300 rpm) just for kicks or to hold gear before a tight corner to save all that shifting |

Very true. I've done a few 1/4 mile pulls and shifting at 6800 rpm yields the best times. The over-rev is great for tracking as the act of shifting takes more time than just taching. If you have DCT, it's a different story.

To be honest, on the street I rarely hit redline. With all the modifications I have done to my car, I don't feel a need to run my car to redline. I'm about 3,200lbs and have the Dinan CAI, throttle body, exhaust and the AA tune. I also have 3.38 rear gears in my Diffsonline LSD.
Since I've done the tune, my car really seems to move effortlessly at lower RPMs. I've had several people drive my car and they said it feels more like a 335 than a 330. That being said, on the track, I absolutely hit the redline almost every lap. It just depends on whether and upshift makes sense or not. Sometimes, it's worth it to back off slightly and just hit the rev limiter at the right moment prior to hard braking and keep the chassis settled by not having to worry about a quick downshift. As a reference, watch the Viper ACR at the 'Ring when they broke the record. The driver was bouncing off the rev limiter often for this exact reason.

You must be crazy. Hope you don't mind having your ride dented up or stolen. The Ironbound section is not too bad if you have a garage but the rest of Newark is a steaming pile of shit.. The Vailsburg section, near Seaton Hall is decent too. I know because I grew up there.

Every day, usually under highways or beside them so the sound from my sexy PE bounces back into the cabin.

I usually do it 4 times a week when I have a need for speed but too often redlining ruins your motor more than anything. Try to avoid it unless you have a nice oil to lubricated the internals. And avoid redlining when you're close to oilchange interval or just had fresh oil installed. I say 300mi before oil, avoid it, when you've just changed the oil, drive 300 mi and you're good to redline again. Its not a bad thing if you do, just recommend you dont

At least 2x a day haha. Once getting on the highway to work, and on the way home
If i ha to use low grade fuel or something feels amiss, i'll sit on 4000-5000rpm for 1-3 minutes Other than that, 2750-3250rpm on the highway solid |

Now that I have a PE installed i red line at least a few times per drive. I live in Vermont where there is almost no traffic so I can open it up when ever i feel like it. Just have to be aware of all the potholes we have here.
