For me admiral was cheapest.

Make sure you follow all the tips on moneysavingexpert.com - IE tweeking job description, using all the comparison sites and also adding a parent/wife onto the policy as a named driver.

I got my quote down from 1650 last year to 1404 this year! Not bad as everyone's premiums seem to be going up....

Still bloody expensive mind Issue with being young!

Insurance is a mind boggling minefield of chaos that's impossible to predict or compare and these comparison sites for me have been nothing but a waste of time.

The biggest insurers seems to have upped their premiums most this year as direct line and aviva quoted £1200 last year and this year for a car one year older they want well over £2500 despite my details being identical apart from an extra year on the NCB! My actual insurer Admiral sent the renewal through £50 cheaper than 2009 but I wanted better. I asked for personal injury to be removed, they argued it was invaluable but immediately took £6 off the £25 price. I also told them I had received a better quote elsewhere and immediately they knocked another 10% off. In the end the renewal went from £825 to £740 without much persuasion.

Admiral cheapest by a mile for me but same can't be said for my missus!

If you'd just be kind enough to tell the entire UK, we'd all be having cheaper insurance

There are a couple of reasons insurance premiums have rocketed this year - firstly was last winter, when 99% of people with driving licenses proved that they had little or no ability in judging road conditions , and secondly the insurers themselves have been losing money for years - IIRC their target profit margin is something like 20p on every £1, but due to the stupid number of supposed whiplash claims on top of all the normal repair bills, they're now losing money instead of making it.
