Rob Beck Turbo Install by Sonic MS
Pictures as promised. After several weeks of waiting for the units, this gave me time to research shops for the install. I had several shops close to me whom were interested in the install, however, I went with Sonic MS. Their reputation in the Bay Area is second to none, not to mention this is their 2nd RB turbo install, so I didn't mind driving 2.5 hours from Sacramento to visit them.
All pictures are curiosity of Calvin (Cal@SonicMS) from M3Post. I won't disclose any price or labor quotes, you will need to contact them personally as each car is different. I chose to go with all new parts, including oil lines, which will add time to the install. As an added bonus, they did my Quaife LSD at the same time. For now, I'm going easy on the car until I feel everything is "broken-in." This is not necessary with new turbos, but it is for the LSD. If you are wondering, I'm using the 7-29 upgraded turbo maps. I know the question will be brought up, no I don't have any smoke or abnormal oil consumption. So far I have approximately 500 miles on the new turbos, and so far so good but I don't want to jinx anything

I'll get you the dyno numbers when I can. In the mean time...wanna trade me for that beautiful red M3?
Just the exhaust, front suspension, steering rack, FMIC, radiator, and lifted part of the engine Something I wasn't willing to do myself.

Congrats, that's 2 of us now up in NorCal. Guys at SonicMS know their stuff, I've had no problems since they did the install, well apart tires wearing out more quickly.

Good stuff Will. Looks great. I didn't know it was that involved to change out turbos. Just curious, how long do you estimate they took on just the turbo install? If downpipes are a 2 hr job, I'm going to guess that's about 6-8 hours.

It took us roughly 15 hours for the turbo swap by itself, not much room to work with unless you pull the engine out completely.

Nice, SonicMS is great. I'll be going there again soon - ordered an ETS FMIC and will be picking up some AR downpipes from there. Not quite as exciting, but I definitely like that place.
Definitely requires patience to wait for the LSD to break in, especially when you get upgraded turbos at the same time.

Regarding the smoke , are you running catted downpipes?

AR's race cat DP's (it's almost like having no cats but keeps drone down). Full catless AE exhaust.

So did you drop any of the subframe or lower any of the motor at all? I'm curious how easy that would be and how much wiggle room you could get by lowing the engine a couple inches. It almost seems as if the pulling the engine would make the job much *easier*, just a little longer.

THere is an LSD break in period? I think I waited 4.3 milliseconds.... is that long enough?

I would say at least 500 miles to break in LSD. That's what I would do but damn it has to be so hard for OP since he got upgraded turbos also. It's like dangling candy in front of a fat lady and making her run for it but she never gets to taste it! Lol

Back to the turbos....you are right, it's like teasing a fat kid with cake. I did get her up to 17 psi today..... On Wed night I'm heading to Sac Raceway, I'll be gingerly launching the car but will get on it in 3rd gear. (Race Gas + 50% meth) Yes, I'm heading to his shop in a few weeks. We are going to load some of the aggressive maps and wire in my Aquamist to the PROcede for extra failsafes. Will hopefully report back with some dyno numbers.
