JB4 install first impressions
Took the plunge and installed my JB4 last Wednesday (while g/f was putting up my roof Xmas lights - now that's dedication). The install required the video and the hard copy instructions. It took me 2.5 hours, although I took my time to make SURE I got it right the first time. I can honestly say it should be about 45 min next time. It's kind of scary digging into the guts of the DME.
I wanted to try Map 5 with a blend of 40% E85 (which is available less than 5 miles away) and 60% 91 octane, but I ran out of time. I ran on Map 1 and Map 5 and didn't notice much difference running straight 91. I logged about 400 miles on a long weekend trip and I gotta say I'm very happy with the results. First time on WOT, I saw DTC lights and heard tires chirpping Power delivery is smooth and strong to redline. I'll report back when I get some E85 in her and autotune on Map 5. Any reason to not just clear codes and leave JB4 in for routine trips to dealer (I'm CPO for next two years)?

Obviously if I have something related to turbos, DME, etc. when I bring it in I would remove JB4.

Glad the install went ok. Installing a piggy can be intimidating the first time. Now i could do it with my eyes closed. For oil changes or warranty work totally unrelated to the motor it's fine. I've left my procede in for such things with no issues.

When can I start pumping in E85/93 Octane blend to run map5? Also how do you exactly know the mixture percentage? Is this eye balling it from total volume of the tank? |

I would say take it out when you go to the dealer just to be safe. After a few more times installing and uninstalling it you'll be able to get it all done with no instructions and in 15 minutes. My first install also took around 2.5 hours and I followed the video and printed instructions. I can now do it in 10-15 minutes max including the USB install into the glove box

Which firmware version? There were really big changes to the Map 5 within the last 6 months. I think even Map 7 has been changed to be more aggressive (19 psi iirc).

You updated the windows program not the jb4 units firmware. Download the hex file and follow the instructions to update |

I recently installed the G5 board and I love it. I am only running DCI and going from G4 to G5 is a big difference. The smoothness in daily driving is much better, and the car pulls much harder as map5 adapts more and more.

I can definitely feel the difference and that's before mixing E85! After installation, I took it for a test drive with map5... (I have BMS DCI only) first few WOT runs were very impressive until car jerked and threw a code at me. 29F2 - Fuel Pressure....!! I pulled over and searched for the code immediately and found out it was a common issue. I guess running map 5 with no E85 mixed is too much...? But I was told that you can run map 5 with no mods... ?? So I switched to map1 restarted the car and did few more WOT runs and no codes. (Keep in mind that I have less than 1000 miles on my 335is so bad fuel pressure is not likely the case...) I'm confused though... I thought G5 was suppose to fix minor code issues..? Oh and also, when I start up JB4 interface on my computer it does say, "interface settings does not match G5 board" Was I suppose to update the firmware? Please advise! |

Post and read up on here and most of your questions will be answered. I only have DCI as well, but I have not gotten that code. I have done a few pulls myself, and it seems to get better every time. Only thing is when the car is cold, it shifts a bit rough. After warming up it gets better.
