Front window tints?

Getting my black e90 tinted in next few weeks hopefully and want the fronts done too, just wondered if many people get hassle with having the fronts done. Was looking at around 35% all round or maybe 50% on the rear just not decided yet. My wife uses the car mainly up and down the motorway and just didn't want her getting pulled over for it, I know your not suppose to do the fronts but do many people actually get stopped for it?

the fronts were done on my car when I bought it, it's not a very dark tint. I've got sun protective glass on the rear and as its so dark I think it makes the front look quite normal, I've had no trouble from the police, but that could change the next time I'm out in the car.

is it a fine only for tinted front windows??

I've read it's a fine and removal of tints but have also read about penalty points, probably just down to who you get on the day isn't it!

Can't you say this is how I bought it and didn't really know about it (presumably it's a very light shade of tin on the front)..

someone with an allround tint like my front windows might get done, but my fronts are a lot lighter than the rear, so that probably doesn't make them seem that bad. I've seen on tv programmes where people get stopped and been made to remove it. if its points I'd remove it, but was sure its a £60 fine, but I maybe wrong

Ye could just say that's how I bought it I suppose. I was thinking light tint all round wouldn't be to bad but like you say having a dark tint on the back would make the fronts look lighter and less noticeable so that could be best option!
Cheers

If the tints exceed the legal max the police can stop and fine you or even impounded the car. If you're involved in an accident where it could be reasonably inferred that the tints were to blame your insurer could decide that your vehicle insurance is not valid. I'd also check with your insurer before installing tints as I've had insurance refused in the past purely because I had aftermarket tints!

edit: If your car already has factory tints on the front windows it's likely that they're already at the max allowed & any additional tint would put them well over.

It doesn't already have tints on but I rang the guy I was gonna get to do it and he said the glass is factory made with 75% of light to pass through it and that's the legal limit!

Check with your insurance if you have already checked that those are legal allowed tints.

Any tint applied aftermarket is illegal. ( technically).

Manufacturers apply the max tint.

But, if its light sure it would be ok.

It might look good to have tints on the front but it does reduce visibility...if you're wife is using your car on the motorway a lot why would you want to reduce her visibility? Safety before looks is the way forward!!!

Law is quite clear on tints forward of the B pillar: zero additional tinting allowed primarily because cars leave factory with maximum allowable tint; so anything more would make it illegal...and being illegal, you also run the risk of voiding your Insurance as you cannot get insurance for an illegal MOD to your car, declared or not.

Ever tried to get insurance with a conviction related to 'no insurance'?

They say fashion comes at a price, if you're willing to pay, I'm ready to play!
